Utah Senator Orrin Hatch Plans to Retire

Senator Orrin G. Hatch of Utah (83), the longest-serving Senate Republican, announced on Tuesday he will retire at the end of the year. He's rebuffing Trump who pleaded with him to seek an eighth term. His leaving paves the way for Mitt Romney, a noted NeverTrumper, to run for Utah's chair.

Mitt Has Mysterious Donors

Earlier this year, a "mystery company" appeared just long enough to donate $1 million remarkably untracable dollars to the Mitt Romney campaign. Almost as quickly as it appeared, it disappeared, leaving hardly a clue that it ever existed in the first place.
The company, W Spann LLC, was formed in March by a Boston lawyer who specializes in estate tax planning for “high net worth individuals,” according to corporate records and the lawyer’s bio on her firm’s website.

The corporate records provide no information about the owner of the firm, its address or its type of business.

Six weeks later, W Spann LLC made its million-dollar donation to Restore Our Future — a new so-called “super PAC” started by a group of former Romney political aides to boost the former Massachusetts governor’s presidential bid. It listed its address as being in a midtown Manhattan office building that has no record of such a tenant. (LINK)
Before you say a ghost or Jesus - I'm just going to say that the LDS Church had a lot of practice with Prop 8 in California and then I'm going to run behind the tree to see if you get what I'm saying?

No Mormons in THIS Cub Scout Den

Church Bans Mormons from Cub Scouts: Not Christian

A Cub Scout troop chartered in North Carolina church has asked a couple to step down as troop leaders because they are Mormon. Jeremy and Jodi Stokes say they were told they are not "real Christians."

The couple's sons were members of the Cub Scout troop at the Christ Covenant Church, a Presbyterian Church, near Charlotte. The Stokes said they were happily accepted when they volunteered to be troop leaders. But that all changed when church leaders found out they were Mormon.

But, they said they'd let the kids say in Scouts -- but it's the parents that aren't fit for leadership positions in the den.

The Stokes kids are now in a scout troop at the local LDS church, and their parents are troop leaders. As far as the Boy Scouts are concerned, you can be a Boy Scout, but you can't always be a Boy Scout where you want to be one.

Oh, or gay. Or atheist. And before you threaten to sue, the Supreme Court agrees that the Scouts can keep you out of their club house.

What's interesting for me is that there's discrimination for believing in the wrong invisible ghost man in the sky, but they'll still take your kids. And you can still play - but you can't come play at the Presbyterian troop/den - you'll have to take your tent over somewhere else.

Big Mormon Push

I'm a surfer, a woman, and a woman's longboard champion. And I'm a Mormon."

Question one - why?

Why would an organized religion need to advertise? Shouldn't their good works and better example lead a path to their doorstep?

One would suggest that it's a thinly veiled attempt by the Mitt Romney camp to de-mystify the Mormon religion so that he can run for president in 2012?

Or is it just a recruiting video?

A 2007 Pew Center poll showed that 18 percent of Americans associate the religion with polygamy, even though the church has banned the practice since the late 19th century. Six percent said they associated Mormonism with terms like "weird" and "cult-like." The religion is one of the world's fastest-growing, with about 13 million members.

"The church's desire here is just to tell people who have no opinion or a negative opinion of Mormons to say, Look it, we're not a bunch of polygamists that wear weird clothes and have a compound in Texas. That's not us, we're just regular folks," Campbell said.

If I'm not allowed in your church - that's a cult.

Mormons Guilty on 13 Counts of Astroturfing

Two years after the Mormon Church poured millions into Prop 8, California Ethics Commission finds them guilty of 13 counts of campaign fraud: fines them a whopping $5538. That'll show 'em.

In an unprecedented ruling against the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, found the Salt Lake City based Church guilty on 13 counts of late campaign reporting. The Mormon Church was fined $5538 in an agreement worked out ending the 19 month long investigation. The Church was the primary backer of California’s Proposition 8, which ended gay marriage in California two years ago.

The Mormon Church initially admitted to spending only $2078 to pass Prop 8. When Fred Karger, founder of Californians Against Hate, filed his sworn complaint on November 13, 2008, he said they instantly attacked him.

The Mormon owned Salt Lake City Deseret News reported on November 14, 2008 that Church spokesman Scott Trotter said the allegations are “false” and the complaint — filed by Fred Karger of Californians Against Hate — has “many errors and misstatements.” Trotter said The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints “has fully complied with the reporting requirements of the California Political Reform Act. Claims that the Church has violated the act and failed to report political expenditures made by the church are false. The church has, in fact, filed four reports with California authorities; these reports are a matter of public record. A further report will be filed on or before its due date, Jan. 30, 2009,” Trotter said.

Don Eaton a spokesman for the Mormon Church said in an interview with KGO-TV (ABC San Francisco) "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints put zero money in this.” Three months later the Mormon Church filed an amended return in which they admitted to spending $190,000. Unfortunately, this was 3 months after the election, so 17 million California voters never were able to know the full extent of the Mormon involvement until well after the election.

The Mormon Church ran phone banks, sent out direct mail, had well designed web sites, produced 27 slick commercials, bussed people in from Utah and had lots of travel expenses by high ranking Church officials. They also raised approximately $30 million from Mormon families to pass Proposition 8.

The Mormon Church also was behind the creation of the infamous National Organization for Marriage (NOM) in 2007, and was the biggest contributor to pass Prop 8.

They've been accused of and fined for what David Axlerod calls "Astroturfing." And seeing how STIFF that penalty is... they're going to be doing it again.

Most Porn Users - Utah

The biggest consumers of online adult entertainment live in the great state of Utah. An average of 5.47 people per 1000 broadband subscribers pay for porn in Orrin Hatch's home state. (Utah also leads in porn consumption among the general population and dial-up users, in case you're wondering.)

Second on that list? Alaska.

Great story, take the time to check it out.

Mormon Civil-Rights Analogy

In a stunning move, apostle of the Church of Later Day Saints Dallin H. Oaks likened the backlash of Mormon support and funding of Proposition 8 to the persecution that African Americans endured during the civil-rights struggle.

No, really.

Oaks, in a strongly worded defense of the church's efforts opposing same-sex marriage, told students at Brigham Young University-Idaho in Rexburg that Latter-day Saints "must not be deterred or coerced into silence" by advocates for "alleged civil rights."

Last year, the Utah-based Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints urged its followers to donate money and time to pass Prop 8, the successful ballot measure that eliminated the right of same-sex couples to wed in California. Afterward, protests, including several near LDS temples, erupted along with boycotts of business owners who donated to Prop 8 and even some vandalism of LDS meetinghouses.

Just so we're on the same page, Mr. Oaks is comparing his backlash to the 'struggle?' Amazingly, there's no mention of GAY CIVIL RIGHTS in the discussion.

And there also seems to be a lack of understanding that Mormons are spectacular racists. In fact, racism is in their bible:
1 Nephi 12:23 And it came to pass that I beheld, after they had dwindled in unbelief they became a dark, and loathsome, and a filthy people, full of idleness and all manner of abominations.

(Joseph Smith calls dark skinned people ugly, filthy, lazy, and perverts.)
Don't worry, Oaks faces a backlash himself.

"Were four little Mormon girls blown up in the church at Sunday school? Were there burning crosses planted on local bishops' lawns? Were people lynched and their genitals stuffed in their mouths?" asked University of Utah historian Colleen McDannell. "By comparing these two things, it diminishes the real violence that African-Americans experienced in the '60s, when they were struggling for equal rights. There is no equivalence between the two."

In the meantime, Mr. Oaks? You're in line for...

Ivory Coast Story

Here's some SPAM I just got. This seems new - religious SPAM.
All the glory of misspellings and poor grammar left in tact for your reading pleasures. My comments in brackets and bold.

"Dear Respected one [Uh, you obviously have no idea who I am, and I've never ever been called that...]

And may the peace of Our gracious God Jesus Christ be with you And All Your Intire Familys,
[My entire family and my mistress's family? I'm not John Edwards, or a Mormon.]

Please I have a problem which I realy need your urgent help i realy belive that our allmithy God Jesus Christ who directed me to you can not lair to me [I really believe in spell check, but you're right, I can't liar you.]

however is not mandatory nor will I in any manner compel you I am JANET MOLO i am 18 years old girl and the only daughter of my late parents Mr. and Mrs.JOHN MOLO.
[where do I begin with this sentence? The beginning isn't even a sentence, let alone a complete thought. I don't even understand what you're asking here. I know that it's a run on sentence. And why are the names ALL CAPS? But what are you trying to ask?]

My father was a highly reputable business man (a coacoa merchant) [what is a coacoa? Is that a plant or a drug? I really need to know. There's a difference, especially to Christians.] he operated in the capital city of Ivory coast during his days. [The government officially discourages the use of the name Ivory Coast in English, preferring the French name Côte d'Ivoire to be used in all languages. During his days, you mean when he was alive?]

My fathers [You had more than one father?] died mysteriously in France during one of his business trips in abroad on 12th.Febuary 2006. [Is Febuary like February without the cold?] Though his sudden death was linked or rather suspected to have been masterminded by an uncle of his who travelled with him at that time. But ONLY GOD knows the truth! [Was this his brother, or his father's brother? If this 'uncle' is suspected, how come only the Lord knows the answer? Is the Lord a witness?]

My mother died when I was just 4 years old on child birth according to what my father told me,The time for her delivery was complete and the doctor did not know because according to my father the doctor told them that my mother was not going through labour because according to his own prediction my mother had about one month more to deliver. [What? She died giving birth to you when you were 4? But you were a month premature?] So before they rialise she was onlabour, it has taken about two days and she became very weak and couldnot make it during child delivery. [I'm still confused. Is this you or your sister? Either way, I'm so confused I don't think my brain pan can process it.] Since then my father took me so special. [He ought to! He was your father.]
Before his death on February 12/ 2006 which came to me as asuprise, [His death was a surprise, but your mother who carried you until age 4, and was in labor for 48 hours, but you were premature - yeah, her death should not be a surprise. Oh, and now you can spell the second month of the year, but cannot work the space bar? Also, your use of commas over periods are really getting on my nerves.]

I have stoped school because i cant afford to pay for my school fees anymore. [And this was a good call - because they taught you how to use the Internet and type, they obviously didn't bother to teach you English fundamentals, or where the spell check button is located.] why becouse the way my uncle is madtreating me is very bad,There is this Amount of Money Five Million Two Hundred Thousand U.S Dollars ($5,200,000.00) which my late Father Mr.JPHN MOLO [Okay, now you can't even spell your late father's name right. Come on. You're not even trying now. And that's US dollars, right? Because I don't want to go through all this work just to have to try to convert Franc's to Euros or dollars.] kept for me in a security company here in Abidjan,Cote D'Ivoire before he was assasinated becuase of his Cocoa Farm Plantation in Cote D'Ivoire. [So now you CAN spell cocoa, and the correct expression of the Ivory Coast? And he just happened to move 5.2 million just before he died? Maybe his moving of this money is what got him killed? I don't know, just a thought.]

My father was assasinated. [Prove it] Now, I have decided to invest these money in your country [I wouldn't invest in American banks. Have you read the newspaper? Ten of America's largest 19 banks need a combined $74.6bn (£50bn) of extra funds to boost their cash reserves. You've only got 5.2 million.] It's going to take or anywhere safe enough outside this country for security purposes.I want you to help me for this matter as i need this money to leave from this country because the money staying in the security company is not giving me any joy. [Tell me about it. Leaving my money in the security company doesn't give me any joy either.] I am explaining my condition to you because of the situation i am facing here in my uncle's house. [You're in his house?! On his computer?] my uncle dont know that my father deposited this money in the security company so please i need you to help me stand as my father buisnass [Buisnass. That's a cool new word you just invented there. How about Biznass instead. There's a little more hip-hop in that spelling.] pathner in abroad, i sopourse to take the money by myself but my father was made agreemant with the security company the money will be giving to me whan i am 30years old but or i come with soon one that will help to invest the money [Well, first off, how would his business partner not know of a deposit of 5.2 million, and I'm not aware of any trust fund that requires the beneficiary to wait until the ripe old age of 30 to collect? There are rules regulating interest bearing trust funds accounts. Perhaps you would like to hire an attorney rather than asking me - a complete stranger - for help?]

so please i need your help please do this for me as you do this our allmithy God Jesus Christ will bless you and all your intire familys, [I really don't see how Jesus has anything - anything - to do with this.]

Please,I really need your help for this box to bring to you in your country for investment purposes as MY late father advice me as his only daughter to look for a partner in abroad that can help me to invest this money on the followings

1).Telecommunication
2 International School
3 Five star hotel
[I'm not any of those, but go on...]

As you help me the security company deliver the box to you in your country. And As soon As i hear from you,i will lead you to the security company where my late Father deposited the Trunk box for you to contact them to negotiate and ask them to tell you how are they Going to deliver the box to you without any problel [You have 5.2 million cash in a Trunk? Why do I have to negotiate with the security company to make a delivery? Have you thought of just using Fed Ex or UPS?]

For your information,my Father did not let the security company to know that money is containing in the Trunk box,[So, now I'm confused again. Your Father deposited 5.2 million in a trunk, left it in the care of a security company that doesn't even know what it is nor has the ability to ship it? Not much of a security company.] i am giving you the secret of the money because i have nothing to hide to you as i have taken you as my only brethren. [Lady, I'm some random dude you're sending an email to. You're better off talking to your Uncle.] May the Our God allmithy in heaven jesus christ give both of us wisdom as i have see that this is the way that our God jesus christ want us to recognised each other. [Again, if you're going to evoke the Almighty, can you show Him the courtesy of spelling his name right - consistently? I'm not even asking for Capitalization, that, I'm afraid, would be too much to ask for.]

Please i want to beg you in the name of our almighty God Jesus Christ for you to be faithull to me. [According to you I have multiple families - how am I going to be faithful to you?] And tell me that you will not cheat me because i am a small girl. [18 isn't a small girl in any country] that you will not cheat on me. I will like to come over to your country and finish my school and get a better husband [Wait-a-minute, you're MARRIED? And you want to trade up? And you're worried about ME cheating on YOU?] and settle down for life, but the most important things i need from you is honest to me becouse i never do this buisness befor in my life [Well, frankly, I've never smuggled 5.2 million in a trunk either. So that makes two of us.] so i will like you to promise me that you can never cheat me when this money get to your contry that you are going to help me invest the money in your contry for a good buisness,

Thank you very much and may Our allmighty in heaven Jesus Christ continue to protect You and your family
Miss Janet Molo
[I think what will protect would be a better spam filter on my e-mail account. Good luck and God bless.

Oh, one last suggestion. You may want to clear the history of your browser, because if your Uncle or your father's uncle, or that guy who killed your father - he might be the kind of guy to keep track of what you're doing on his computer. Watch your back.]

Utah Dry No More

To explain exactly how bad it's getting out there - Utah, the driest of dry states is about to ratify the 21st Amendment.

Utah Legislators and Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. announced a deal Monday that would make the most sweeping changes in decades to Utah's liquor laws, including an end to the state's one-of-a-kind private-club law.

Huntsman, who made doing away with the nettlesome club law a priority before the session, said it was a task that "many thought to be quite impossible early on." Why? Because of the LDS "Mormon" church - which about two-thirds of Utahns belong to (and more than 80 percent of legislators belong), which eschews evil nasty alcohol consumption.

The idea, is of course, to generate tax revenue on those blasphemous tourists who bring in about 6 Billion to Utah.

But there's a catch. There's always a catch thirsty Utah Blasphemes readers... The private clubs are going away, replacing them with a scanner to verify the validity of the identification presented by someone under age 35. Data would be stored on-site for a week. There would be no centralized law-enforcement database.[so they claim]

Second, the mixing of alcohol must be concealed from the children. For restaurants that serve alcohol, the bill would do away with the so-called "Zion Curtain," a glass barrier that servers must walk around to distribute drinks to patrons. Under the proposed changes, bartenders would now be able to pass a drink to a patron across the bar.

Also, don't get nutty and even THINK about getting a DUI in Utah. Repeat offenders could forfeit their vehicles; underage drunken drivers could lose their licenses; and bar owners could face more legal liability if drunken patrons are involved in accidents.

No word on how high that tax is going to be. Hope you like the hot drunk chicks added to make this article better.

Faith in the System

A BLASPHEMES FOLLOW UP: (with Added Emphasis so you can skim to get the gist of the story)

SAN ANGELO, Tex. - A Texas appeals court said Thursday that the state had no right to take more than 400 children from a polygamist sect's ranch, a ruling that could unravel one of the biggest child-custody cases in U.S. history.

The Third Court of Appeals in Austin ruled that the state offered "legally and factually insufficient" grounds for the "extreme" measure of removing all children from the ranch, from babies to teenagers.

The state never provided evidence that the children were in any immediate danger, the only grounds in Texas law for taking children from their parents without court approval, the appeals court said.

It also failed to show evidence that more than five of the teenage girls were being sexually abused, and never alleged any sexual or physical abuse against the other children, the court said.

It was not immediately clear whether the children scattered across foster facilities statewide might soon be reunited with parents. The ruling gave Texas District Judge Barbara Walther 10 days to vacate her custody order, and the state could appeal.

FLDS spokesman Rod Parker said sect members feel validated, having argued from the beginning that they were being persecuted for their beliefs.

Every child at the Yearning For Zion Ranch in Eldorado was taken into state custody more than six weeks ago, after Child Protective Services officials argued that members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints pushed underage girls into marriage and sex and groomed boys to become adult perpetrators. Only a few dozen of the roughly 440 children seized are teenage girls; half were under 5.
WITH NO EVIDENCE! - my emphasis.

The appeals court said the state was wrong to consider the entire ranch as an individual household and that the state couldn't take all the children from a community on the notion that some parents in the community might be abusers.

The court said that although five girls had become pregnant at age 15 or 16, the state gave no evidence about the circumstances of the pregnancies. It noted that minors as young as 16 can wed in Texas with parental consent, and even younger children can marry if a court approves it.

Bottom Line: No matter how goofy you think a hairstyle is, taking those kids based on stereotypes, a phony phone call and the misconception that the State was going to do right - was totally wrong, and I hope that all the people involved are unemployed and counter sued for the trauma they put those kids through.

Let me reiterate a point when I brought this to you the first time - if there was ANY child abuse by the men - hang 'em by their privates. If the sect is collecting Welfare checks - you can go ahead and stop that with force. But to take the kids on no evidence? - just because you think the State has to 'save them' is exactly the kind of run away insane government that I've been trying to highlight here.

Now get those kids back to their mothers!

Apr 17, 2008

What's going on in Texas?

Texas officials have taken more than 400 children into temporary state custody while they continued investigating allegations that girls at a remote polygamist compound were being sexually abused by men. (old news)

However, thirteen days have passed and removed every child living there, but they still do not know if they have the 16-year-old whose calls moved them to act.

Now there are questions about whether she really exists. "It's all a farce," says Annette, one FLDS woman whose children are in state custody. "They searched. Did they find her?" Skeptics point to a number of problems with the caller's story, which Texas authorities acknowledge was key to the dramatic raid. No call for help, no raid. (new news)

"There is no verbage or terminology used that leads me to believe the statements were made by someone inside," said Ezra Draper of Hildale, Utah, who left the FLDS sect six years ago. "I think it's bunk."

Yet, the kids are still separated from their mothers. Most of whom (according to the crack media covering the case) claim that they weren't even given an explanation from the State authorities why their kids were being placed into State care.

It is assumed that the strength or weakness of the state's evidence of alleged abuse found at the ranch that will matter when Judge Walther decides whether the 416 FLDS children will go to foster homes, they say.

John J. Sampson, a University of Texas law professor and expert on family law, said those cases will focus on what investigators found once they were at the ranch. But if there was no real abuse going on in there, and the initial call was based on false premises?

Look - if there WAS any abuse going on - hell yes, absolutely prosecute them, throw the phone book on them. Castration comes to mind. There's nothing worse than child abuse, in my feeble little mind. But prosecute the MEN.

However, the false premise, the lack of evidence, the inability to find the whistle blower... it raises questions I'm not hearing in the press. Raiding the 'compound' on false pretenses? Shouldn't that null any evidence they found?

Look, if you've ever seen Big Love on HBO, you've got a little bit of an idea of what's going on. There's a compound separated from the rest of the world - they're not LDS, but an offshoot that practices "the Principle" which is Polygamy. And the State just raided the compound and "rescued" all the children. Children who have (probably) never been away from their mothers or off the compound. Imagine the trauma that's causing those children?

Why didn't they just jail the men? Probably because there was absolutely no evidence? Or better, Texas will be clobbered with a first amendment battle over freedom of religion, or the separation of church and state. But what about the kids?

"The state was absolutely within its rights to take these children," says Marci Hamilton, an expert on church-state issues at the Cardozo School of Law in New York. "There is no religious defense to child abuse and no problem with the separation of church and state when the state stays focused on the abuse."

Bottom line: Unchecked state power needs to be questioned. Goofy religious sect this week... your goofy uncle's pr0n collection next. I just feel for those poor kids.

Mormon Missionaries Make Moron Mission Statement

In this photo, posted online, an LDS missionary is seen preaching from the Book of Mormon at a Catholic Church in Colorado in 2006.
This picture, posted online, shows an LDS missionary holding the broken head of a Catholic statue in Colorado in 2006.
"We are deeply saddened to hear that the actions of three missionaries have resulted in the destruction of property," said Scott Trotter of the church's public affairs division.

"It is particularly disturbing that this property was a religious site where people go to worship and find solace," Trotter continued. "We hope that the actions of these three will not damage our relationships with the citizens of San Luis and with the Catholic Church-relationships that we value so much. We offer our sincere apologies to all who have been affected by this senseless act."
You know, for a religion that was made up by some 19th century gold seeker looking into a hat and is loosely based on the history of North America - for which there is not a single shred of evidence probably shouldn't be making fun of any one else's religion.

And really, for good Catholic humor - I'm fairly sure you have to BE Catholic to pull it off. No one mocks Catholics better than another Catholic. Not only are these "missionaries" offending, they're not FUNNY - and that's the bigger sin.

Super Fat Tuesday Mega Mecha Monkey Primary

This is it! The big day. The Tsunami of Presidential Primary days. It sure looks like a Tsunami...

Prognosis: Terrible weather doesn't bode well for Democracy.

"I can't be inconvenienced" and "there's too much snow for my wheelchair"

My initial thought is that rain will keep old people from voting, and then I thought it might keep young people from voting... but it won't keep Mormons from voting. Democrats can't be bothered to vote when it rains , so it stands to reason that the more left-leaning factions of the GOP and the Democrat/Independent crossovers (i.e. McCain's bloc) might sit home in greater numbers than the conservative base.

Bottom line: the Mormon God is helping Mitt today. Maybe not enough to "win," but enough to keep it interesting.

BTW - According to latest Reuters/C-SPAN/Zogby poll released early Tuesday, Barack Obama leads Hillary Clinton in California by 13 points. Anyone want to take an over-under on how far off that poll is?

Predictions? Since OneF hasn't kept up with it - I'm just going to say there will still not be a clear leader between the two camps - but Huckabee will be forced out soon afterwards citing lack of money. There might be a sweetheart deal for him to stick in the race to stick it to Mitt, but we'll have to keep an eye on that rumor/speculation.

Mormon Secret Underwear

Remember way back when I eluded to the Mormons wearing 'secret underwear?'

Here you go.

Guess that's why it is such a big secret?
Wonder if that picture is out of some Salt Lake City Penny's catalog or something?
Perhaps a wedding night photo?
"Stand next to the pretty wallpaper, hon - I'll just set this camera timer and we'll always remember our honeymoon!"

This Week's Blasphemous Post

This week, hold on, let me look into my hat here - It's the Mormons!
Here's the LINK (very groovy 1970's animation)
Apparently, a Christian group made this overly melodramatic short back in the 1970s to debunk the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. At least, that's what I've found on the interwebs. Can't seem to verify this information. However, this is a good 6 minutes, so don't say I didn't warn you about the length.

Bonus - after you watch this, Big Love on HBO will make a lot more sense.
And to learn more about Big Love and the LDS church - I recommend Under the Banner of Heaven by Jon Krakauer.

And, as an added bonus:
Here's a link to an Australian guy making fun of the Mormon "Magic Underpants" - but there's a word that's NSFW (or not safe for work, you n00b) and it's more insulting than clever.

Well, that's it for this week - but remember, just because your religion was this week doesn't mean you're done - oh, far from it. You're back in the hat for next week's drawing too!
