Dick Cheney To Be Charged In KBR/Halliburton Bribery Scandal

If you've read “Confessions of an Economic Hitman” you're not surprised by this news. Remember, Dick Cheney is so bad-ass, when he shoots people they apologize to him.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said yesterday it was charging former United States Vice-President Dick Cheney over the bribery scandal involving an engineering firm, KBR, a subsidiary of Halliburton. Before assuming duties as the vice-president of the US, Cheney was the chief executive officer of Halliburton from 1995-2000.

Cheney was vice-president to President George W Bush between 2001 and 2009. Bush was succeeded by President Barack Obama.

An arrest warrant “will be issued and transmitted through Interpol”, EFCC prosecuting counsel Godwin Obla said.

The firm, KBR, had admitted bribing Nigerian government officials over the construction of a liquefied natural gas plant in Nigeria.

Spokesman of the EFCC, Femi Babafemi, said charges would be preferred against the former vice-president next week. He said the charges were “not unconnected to his role as the chief executive of Halliburton”.

See that part where it says "Nigeria is making the charge" ? Nigerians are experts on what constitutes fraud. And Dick Cheney is so bad-ass he scams Nigerians!

Stumbled across this series of Anti Scientology Fliers.

It would appear, on face value, to be someone's page of a project for "Anonymous" which was an organization/is an organization against Scientology. Perhaps you've heard me mention Project Chanology more than a couple times? Well, anyway, I thought my readers would be interested in looking at these fliers and make their own "judgment" on the issue. Please enjoy and report back.

French Fry Scientology

Scientologists convicted of fraud in France

French judges fined the Church of Scientology almost a million dollars on Tuesday for fleecing vulnerable followers but stopped short of banning the group from operating in France.

Scientology's Celebrity Centre and its bookshop in Paris, the two branches of its French operations, were ordered to pay 600,000 euros (900,000 dollars) in fines for preying financially on several followers in the 1990s.

Alain Rosenberg, the French leader of a movement best known for its Hollywood followers Tom Cruise and John Travolta, was handed a two-year suspended jail sentence and fined 30,000 euros on the same charge of fraud.

Five more Scientologists were give fines ranging from 1,000 to 20,000 euros for fraud or the illegal practice of pharmacy.

France regards Scientology as a cult, not a religion, and has prosecuted individual Scientologists before, but this case marks the first time the organization as a whole has been convicted. (MORE)

Sotomayor is Wrong

Sotomayor is biased - and I for one am not going to bring up her 'wise latina' comment.

No, lets talk about guns, shall we?

Gun owners are scared silly over her obvious checker flag nomination and her obvious placement on the court. In the odd chance you're watching this silly Congressional hearing, Judge Sotomayor belted out perfectly scripted responses to the Democrat questions, and rehearsed, but no where near as polished answers to the Republicans. Of course, there was no answer on abortion. That issue was dodged. But she was also evasive on the question of whether the Second Amendment guarantees a fundamental right. In fact, her previous decision in United States v. Sanchez-Villar held that it was not.

Worst, in Maloney v. Cuomo, which reviewed whether owning a weapon is freedom applies to all law-abiding Americans or only to residents of Washington, D.C. If it's incorporated, the Second Amendment prevents the states from disarming honest Americans. If it's not, the Second Amendment is meaningless outside of our nation's capital.

Judge Sotomayor was on the Second Circuit panel that decided the Maloney case in a short, unsigned, and clearly incorrect opinion. The fact that the Maloney panel misread precedent in order to avoid doing the Fourteenth Amendment "incorporation" analysis required by the Supreme Court is troubling to the gun owners of America, to say the least.

Equally troubling is the fact that Judge Sotomayor said she wasn't even familiar with the Supreme Court's modern incorporation cases. There are few issues more important for a judge to understand than whether the fundamental guarantees in the Bill of Rights apply to all Americans. And before you get all huffy, the First Amendment right to free speech applies to all Americans. Our Fourth Amendment protection from illegal search and seizure applies to all Americans. It's hard to believe that a potential Supreme Court justice wouldn't be familiar with those cases? Right? You can't pick and choose which rights given to the people are 'good' or 'bad' - only if the laws have infringed upon those rights.

Despite that judicial amnesia, Judge Sotomayor co-authored an opinion -- in January of this year -- holding that the Second Amendment does not apply to the States. So that leaves two options: either she failed to follow the Supreme Court's direction in Heller that judges are required to analyze the modern incorporation cases; or she actually did review those cases, but came to an incorrect conclusion. Neither option gives gun owners much confidence in her view of the Second Amendment.

And gives me zero confidence that she's qualified for the job.

But she sure has a lot of empathy.
