Golden Globes 2017

  • Best picture, drama: “Moonlight”
  • Best picture, comedy or musical: “La La Land”
  • Actress, drama: Isabelle Huppert, “Elle”
  • Actor, drama: Casey Affleck, “Manchester by the Sea”
  • Actress, comedy or musical: Emma Stone, “La La Land”
  • Actor, comedy or musical: Ryan Gosling, “La La Land”
Not that any of this matters in the slightest. As the cartoon notes, there are only 93 voters of the "Foreign Press", who are mostly not really foreign, nor are they really journalists... but their identities are well known. And so for folks who are trying to get their picture noticed and voted on by the Oscar voters, getting your show to take a spraypainted doorknob is a good investment in the movie business.

There are quite a few things about the Golden Globes that raise quite a few eyebrows. Here's an article about it, if you care. Yes, the link is to Fox News, which programs opposite NBC - so read it with a grain of salt.

Saturday Morning Video: Damn Atheists

The people were ridiculous, but the reporter was surprisingly impartial. Bravo.

Another thought, Billboard for a christian church - everything is fine and dandy.
Billboard for an athiest gathering - HOW DARE YOU!

But, why does an Atheist need to discuss with other Atheists what they don't believe? Why does god need a Starship?

How to Sell A Glass Boot

Now, I don't pretend to know ANYTHING about selling, marketing or how advertising actually works. But that's why I'm qualified to run a high ranking agency...

The following is an example of how, precisely one should sell a glass boot designed for drinking. You get the love child of Zoolander and Dieter from Sprockets.

How many can I put you down for? A case?

Oh Jesus!

Cincinnati Right to Life has posted five billboards showing an ultrasound image of a fetus representing Jesus with the slogan, "He Came As a Baby ... Christmas Starts with Christ."

The fetus in the billboard has a halo.

"This simple illustration emphasizes that Jesus Christ came to the world both human and divine, and in so doing, sanctified the birth process for every person.

Christmas is the message of Christ’s Love for all, no matter our age, race, ability, poverty or wealth, or place or residence," the group said in a news release.

The signs are produced by ChurchAds.net, a coalition of Christian churches, including Church of England, Baptist Union, United Reformed Church, Anglican and Methodist churches. The group and a private donor paid for the Cincinnati billboards.

So, question - who paid for the ultrasound? That's like 3K a pop and since the Carpenter Union hasn't approved the ObamaCare waivers - was it paid for by public money? Would that be a violation of Church and State?

I also didn't know that Roman HealthCare was that sophisticated.

Daisy 2010

It’s from the American Values Network, a hard-left progressive faith group:

Burns Strider, the group’s founder, was a former aide to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and was a faith advisor to the Hillary Clinton presidential campaign. In other words, this is a Democratic ad blitz using the most outlandish fearmongering imaginable. The original “Daisy Girl” ran at the height of the Cold War. It came in response to Barry Goldwater’s bellicose comments on the use of nuclear weapons against the Soviets. There’s little of that kind of rhetoric in today’s GOP — and we’re not on the brink of a nuclear holocaust — and the ad’s claims on inspections under the new START are entirely dependent on Moscow’s compliance and transparency. When Obama signed the treaty in April, our Czech allies dissed it as “appeasing Russia.” “Trust Russia on START?”

Now, in case you missed it, here's the original scare the hell out of you ad from LBJ's camp against Barry Goldwater.

Saturday Morning Cliches

In 1965, a nameless ad agency, as in-house joke, put together a short, comical introduction to the various cliches found in the television commercials of the time.

GOP Courts New Voters

A Houston based group called Raging Elephants is looking to change their dynamic with their new billboard, "GOP Is The New Black" campaign. The new billboard depicts a number of well-heeled African-American actors while trumpeting the new slogan. Its also likely to spark a debate that may include allegations of race-baiting, as well as a certain inquiry into where the funds initially came from...

And no word on who decided that this was a good idea, or not the lamest thing anyone has ever seen.

140 Million Dollars to the wind

Watch carefully, with one sentence - you can actually see 140 million dollars blow away.

Sure, Governor Moonbeam helped pass the collective bargaining bill that created public employee unions that have contributed to the bankrupting of the State of California... but this is about positive advertising, and how nice it was to be in California 30 years ago... before Meg Whitman lived there.

Seems to be working: Brown Opens Up Lead in California.

RNC: Hicks

Republican campaign operatives are taking down an ad against West Virginia Democratic Senate candidate Joe Manchin following a report that the ad's casting call asked for actors who could look "hicky."

The casting call urged actors to bring clothing like flannel shirts, "beat up" John Deere hats and down-filled vests -- "so think coal miner/trucker looks." And they were shot in Philadelphia. So they were outsourced hicks.

Now we're down to the 'Casting Call' of a political ad. Not the ad itself, which is called "Stop Obama."

Yes, Hicky is technically a derogatory term, but some people don't mind being called hick. Some even openly embrace the term. Now, how the RNC didn't see the ad for the actors or oversee the process, after sending the company money seems to be out of whack. Any spot I've ever heard of, there are over 18 Smithers putting in their 2 cents, as if their two cents carried any water. The fact there weren't so many overseers probably speaks more to the apathy of the RNC, towards the process... It's like they "out-sourced" to another state, and didn't care about the product, quality, message - they just threw cash at it. Doubtful they'll be repeating that mistake again.

And note to the casting agent and director - yes, you're racists.

To anyone else who thinks this matters - it doesn't. Discuss how you're going to end the wars and stop spending 5 dollars for every 1 you bring in.

Saturday Morning Cartoons

Join the 10:10 movement - or the hippies will FUGGIN KILL YOU!

Warning - not safe for work, or wobbly tummies -- definitely not children.

Nope, not a hoax - this is what 'tolerant' people want to do to deniers. Follow the Global Warming Agenda “or else.” The companies involved with this group include Microsoft, Adidas, Pret a Manger and Aviva among others.

To say that this ad sick and perverse doesn't scratch the surface. This is a death threat to people who don't buy those mercury filled lightbulbs. You can't show this video to kids, can you? It does expose their true feelings, though. The makers of the spots and the organization should be wiping some egg and blood smears off themselves right about now, right? Oh, wait, did they think this is funny? Originally intended for theaters, the 10:10 folks pulled the video on October 1, saying that it was not well received and that “you live and learn.” Riggghhhtt....

Now it's magically resurfaced on YouTube, and the dumbasses at Blasphemes are running it to show you - All I know is that it speaks volumes about the organization and the people supporting it.

What's in a Name?

So I've been sitting on this one. I figured everyone would have read it somewhere else by now... but realizing that Blasphemes was one of the FIRST and ONLY outlets to tell the truth about High Fructose Corn Syrup - we should at least post the newest news on the issue...

The makers of HFCS want to make it all better. Are they going to stop selling the stuff? No... but they found a way to make this whole icky controversy go away....

The makers of high fructose corn syrup want to sweeten its image with a new name: corn sugar.

The Corn Refiners Association applied Tuesday to the federal government for permission to use the name on food labels. The group hopes a new name will ease confusion about the sweetener, which is used in soft drinks, bread, cereal and other products.

Americans’ consumption of corn syrup has fallen to a 20-year low on consumer concerns that it is more harmful or more likely to cause obesity than ordinary sugar, perceptions for which there is little scientific evidence.

However, some scientists have linked consumption of full-calorie soda – the vast majority of which is sweetened with high fructose corn syrup – to obesity.
[...]
There’s a new online marketing campaign at and on television. Two new commercials try to alleviate shopper confusion, showing people who say they now understand that “whether it’s corn sugar or cane sugar, your body can’t tell the difference. Sugar is sugar.”

Right. And too much of anything will turn you into a fatbody. We get that. Too bad there's just more and more evidence disagreeing with the 'Sugar is Sugar' argument. It appears that cancer just loves the stuff!

The good news is that you know they're losing when they have to change the name. Aspartame pulled this stunt not too long ago. Also, the fact that Pepsi and Coke are sensing the pressure. They're running campaigns all the time - reminding you they sell bottled water and other sugary drinks other than colas with HFCS... and Pepsi has had Throwback Dew and Pepsi on the shelves a lot longer than that 'limited' amount of time, which means it's selling. I've bought a couple cases of the stuff. My Costco sells 'Mexican' Coke. I bought a case of that too. I vote with my dollars. Maybe if enough people do the same, Corn Sugar will be a distant memory like DDT?

Blasphemous Friday

Advertising agency Muckmouth, Auckland, New Zealand created a blasphemous campaign for Eshe Streatwear. The campaign includes four posters posted all over the streets of Auckland, branded skateboards and t-shirts.

Advertising is known to break taboos since before the scandalous Benetton campaigns breaking down the taboos of race, sex and politics. This campaign is now taking a stab at religion and picking on widely publicised scandals around it, such as pedophilia in the Catholic church and tele-evangelists making fortunes by commercialising religion. According to Wikipedia church attendance in New Zealand is around 15% and it must be even lower among the young population. So, it's safe to say the campaign will not be opposed by too many down under.

Suday Comics - The Week In Review

The week in review - where we sum up everything we missed or were ranting about this week with a cartoon...

Russia caught on fire this week...
And Pakistan drowned...
Charlie Rangel told the Ethic's Committee to go f*ck themselves and the 80 year old danced at his birthday party.
It seems Harry Reid really is a racist. He said that his boss, Mr. Obama did not have a “Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one” and that he was popular because he is “light skinned”. He's been called out as an anti-semite, and this week called all hispanic men Democrats. Harry Reid once again demonstrates that it is that it is OK to be a racial bigot, so long as you are a leftwing racial bigot. Folks in Nevada, please, pretty please, get rid of this stupid nut. He makes you look bad. And forget his racial slurs - he's also an idiot. The racial slurs are just cherries on top of his crap ice cream banana split of incompetence.
The recovery isn't what they said it would be.
All this noise about a bitchy little child of a flight attendant taking a couple beers down the slide to say he quit... well the real reason he's being heralded as a hero? You bet - there's a job opening at Jet Blue! And here's an interesting observation on the ruling oligarchy political class...
And in California - the land of Fruit and Nuts...
And finally. in the history of bad advertising placement, this one wins the splattered mud pie.
Have a great week folks, if we all make it through, we'll see each other next week.
