Gay Pride in New York
The Empire State Building’s pre-scheduled rainbow light display honoring NYC Pride Week becomes that much more meaningful in light of the state’s legalization of same-sex marriage. But, hey, sometimes a rainbow is just a rainbow.May 20, 2011

Gay Politics
Justice Department to Stop Defending Federal Law on Gay MarriagePresident Obama, in a major legal policy shift, has directed the Justice Department to stop defending the Defense of Marriage Act - the 1996 law that bars federal recognition of same-sex marriages - against lawsuits challenging it as unconstitutional.... and bad for re-election campaigns.
Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. on Wednesday sent a letter to Congress to inform them that the Justice Department will now take the position in court that the Defense of
Marriage Act should be struck down as a violation of gay couples' rights to equal protection under the law.
"The President and I have concluded that classifications based on sexual orientation warrant heightened scrutiny and that, as applied to same-sex couples legally married under state law" a crucial provision of the Defense of Marriage Act is unconstitutional, Mr. Holder wrote.
The part that was still barely legible under a pile of eraser junk were some doodles and a half sentence about how Mr. Obama would probably need the gay vote in the next election. There were some bullet points about how he hadn't fulfilled any of his campaign promises to the gay community, and he ought to throw this half hearted effort to make it look like he was doing something.
The final note was, we'll see if they buy that.

No Mormons in THIS Cub Scout Den
Church Bans Mormons from Cub Scouts: Not ChristianA Cub Scout troop chartered in North Carolina church has asked a couple to step down as troop leaders because they are Mormon. Jeremy and Jodi Stokes say they were told they are not "real Christians."
The couple's sons were members of the Cub Scout troop at the Christ Covenant Church, a Presbyterian Church, near Charlotte. The Stokes said they were happily accepted when they volunteered to be troop leaders. But that all changed when church leaders found out they were Mormon.
But, they said they'd let the kids say in Scouts -- but it's the parents that aren't fit for leadership positions in the den.
The Stokes kids are now in a scout troop at the local LDS church, and their parents are troop leaders. As far as the Boy Scouts are concerned, you can be a Boy Scout, but you can't always be a Boy Scout where you want to be one.
Oh, or gay. Or atheist. And before you threaten to sue, the Supreme Court agrees that the Scouts can keep you out of their club house.
What's interesting for me is that there's discrimination for believing in the wrong invisible ghost man in the sky, but they'll still take your kids. And you can still play - but you can't come play at the Presbyterian troop/den - you'll have to take your tent over somewhere else.

'Bandit' Obama billboard
A billboard depicting Barack Obama as an Islamist suicide bomber, a gay and a Mexican bandit has triggered a storm of criticism in a western US city weeks ahead of crucial polls. The colourful poster of the US president -- under the ironic slogan "Vote DemocRAT" -- is attracting attention from media worldwide and from people clogging a local parking lot for a closer look.
The local Republican Party chairman said the billboard is in bad taste.
Doris Downey, the owner of a company whose parking lot is being invaded by people taking a closer look, is angry that her business is being disrupted.
"I have no problem with freedom of speech, but I do have a problem with causing problems for others, and this is causing problems for us on top of all this," she said.
"I don't know who commissioned that thing, which I think is despicable, but they should own up to it," Downey said. "Anonymous opinion gets no respect from me."
Cap'n's Half Cent... I'll say this much -- Obama plays a lot of villains to a lot of different people... but the left side fringe did the same thing with Bush and Cheney... so I guess it's not racist?

The Wedge
Democrats in Tight Races Put Focus on Abortion Rights "In the campaign’s closing weeks, Democrats are working to convince voters that a conservative social agenda is waiting in the wings should Republicans be elected in large numbers."
Yep - time to pull out the old divisive political wedge issues.
What's so desperate about this move is that - frankly - it doesn't work. The Repubs did have a majority at one point, and didn't do squat about this issue. They won't and can't. Everyone knows this -- or should know this. If the Republicans were pulling this stunt out of their desperation bag, Jon Stewart would be pulling down his trousers and screaming about it on his show. But when the Democrats do it, it's a polite reminder that the Republicans are batshiat insane.
I'm sick and tired of the divide and conquer attitude that 'We the People' have allowed ourselves to be sucked into. It's not pro-life vs pro-choice -- it's US vs. THEM, and THEY are winning. Look beyond these ridiculous emotional issues (that the Legislative and Executive Branches are completely impotent to enact any change upon -- ex, Flag Burning, Gay Marriage, and even Medical Marijuana, and even if they could, they won't - note, on a National scale. These issues are local or screaming at the sky issues) and look at the money they're spending and printing and giving to their friends, family and cronies! They're on the last couple sips past the ice cubes and are trying feverishly to grab the last few drops from the straw... and we're going to let them pull out the race card or the abortion punt.
Don't buy into it - or better, stop buying into it. Anyone who's carting this trash onto the podium should have rotten fruit or eggs pelted at them.
Demand solutions, not more wedges.

Don't Ask, Do Not Pass Go.
Military Spending Bill Is Stalled by Procedural Vote in SenateThe Senate voted against taking up a major military bill that includes a provision allowing the repeal of the "don't ask, don't tell policy" regarding gay soldiers.
To be clear, no one is a winner here. You're a jerk if you vote for it, and a jerk if you don't. And the boys in harm's way are being told they aren't going to get their paychecks while the Senate plays politics.
Senate Republicans blocked debate of the bill -- the huge, annual authorization of military programs -- after the majority leader, Harry Reid, Democrat of Nevada, said he would attach a number of the Democrats' election-year priorities to it and also move to limit the amendments to be offered by Republicans. That's the bi-partisanship Mr. Obama was talking about for the last two years, right?
The vote was 56 to 43.
Wait, doesn't Harry have 59 votes? He can't even keep his own party in line?
Congress has approved the annual Pentagon authorization bill for 48 consecutive years. Lets pause and reflect on THAT for a moment, can we? Remember when Ike warned of the Industrial Military Complex? Yeah - that's kind of what he was talking about. 48 years in a row, eh?
It seems likely that the measure will be brought up again after the election in the relatively calmer -- if somewhat unpredictable -- atmosphere of a lame duck session. You know, when fewer people are paying attention or playing politics with what would otherwise be a procedural vote.
Maybe we should be asking larger questions - like why that sucker has been passed 48 years in a row - with no question. Maybe why we've spent 10 trillion dollars since WWII being the world's police man. We don't seem to want the job anymore, and you'd think our military contractors would make more money selling goods and services if there were more customers, like Japan and Germany?
In the meantime, playing a game of political cat and also cat isn't really playing nice, now is it? No matter what Lady GaGa says.

Don't Ask...
Read more ....The full decision is here. Now, I think we can all assume that the Obama Administration will appeal, yes, appeal this ruling.
What, you say? Didn't he promise to do exactly the opposite on the campaign trail? Especially when checks were being written?
Well, if he doesn't it's just one more issue that will be used against the Democrats in the midterm elections, and one that they can't use the race card on.
Now when a judge says the following ....
.... the ban violated the first amendment rights of homosexuals and harmed the effectiveness of the armed forcesWho is he to pass judgment that the ban harms the effectiveness of the armed forces? Sorry .... but this ruling smells more political than legal. And does this judge even have the ability to force a judgment upon the military? Probably not - and I'm assuming a JAG office will chime in on the comments...
BUT it does offer a crack in the armor - a roadmap to HOW to effectively fight the ban.

Suday Comics - The Week In Review
Russia caught on fire this week...
And Pakistan drowned...
Charlie Rangel told the Ethic's Committee to go f*ck themselves and the 80 year old danced at his birthday party.
It seems Harry Reid really is a racist. He said that his boss, Mr. Obama did not have a “Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one” and that he was popular because he is “light skinned”. He's been called out as an anti-semite, and this week called all hispanic men Democrats. Harry Reid once again demonstrates that it is that it is OK to be a racial bigot, so long as you are a leftwing racial bigot. Folks in Nevada, please, pretty please, get rid of this stupid nut. He makes you look bad. And forget his racial slurs - he's also an idiot. The racial slurs are just cherries on top of his crap ice cream banana split of incompetence.
The recovery isn't what they said it would be.
All this noise about a bitchy little child of a flight attendant taking a couple beers down the slide to say he quit... well the real reason he's being heralded as a hero? You bet - there's a job opening at Jet Blue!
And here's an interesting observation on the ruling oligarchy political class...
And in California - the land of Fruit and Nuts...
And finally. in the history of bad advertising placement, this one wins the splattered mud pie.
Have a great week folks, if we all make it through, we'll see each other next week.

Breaking News
Prop 8 is unconstitutional - much to the dismay of the folks in Utah, about California? Anyhow, the best part of this story is that they cited the 14th Amendment in their decision. Ha - Ha.The ruling by Judge Vaughn R. Walker of Federal District Court in San Francisco represents an important victory for gay rights advocates... for ten seconds until it gets appealed and then goes to the United States Supreme Court. That's when it gets real.
And then this happened...

Mormons Guilty on 13 Counts of Astroturfing
Two years after the Mormon Church poured millions into Prop 8, California Ethics Commission finds them guilty of 13 counts of campaign fraud: fines them a whopping $5538. That'll show 'em.In an unprecedented ruling against the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, found the Salt Lake City based Church guilty on 13 counts of late campaign reporting. The Mormon Church was fined $5538 in an agreement worked out ending the 19 month long investigation. The Church was the primary backer of California’s Proposition 8, which ended gay marriage in California two years ago.
The Mormon Church initially admitted to spending only $2078 to pass Prop 8. When Fred Karger, founder of Californians Against Hate, filed his sworn complaint on November 13, 2008, he said they instantly attacked him.
The Mormon owned Salt Lake City Deseret News reported on November 14, 2008 that Church spokesman Scott Trotter said the allegations are “false” and the complaint — filed by Fred Karger of Californians Against Hate — has “many errors and misstatements.” Trotter said The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints “has fully complied with the reporting requirements of the California Political Reform Act. Claims that the Church has violated the act and failed to report political expenditures made by the church are false. The church has, in fact, filed four reports with California authorities; these reports are a matter of public record. A further report will be filed on or before its due date, Jan. 30, 2009,” Trotter said.
Don Eaton a spokesman for the Mormon Church said in an interview with KGO-TV (ABC San Francisco) "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints put zero money in this.” Three months later the Mormon Church filed an amended return in which they admitted to spending $190,000. Unfortunately, this was 3 months after the election, so 17 million California voters never were able to know the full extent of the Mormon involvement until well after the election.
The Mormon Church ran phone banks, sent out direct mail, had well designed web sites, produced 27 slick commercials, bussed people in from Utah and had lots of travel expenses by high ranking Church officials. They also raised approximately $30 million from Mormon families to pass Proposition 8.
The Mormon Church also was behind the creation of the infamous National Organization for Marriage (NOM) in 2007, and was the biggest contributor to pass Prop 8.
They've been accused of and fined for what David Axlerod calls "Astroturfing." And seeing how STIFF that penalty is... they're going to be doing it again.

Gay Question
It's Pride Weekend.Quick question - The Gay and lesbian community uses the rainbow as their symbol. Okay, that's nice. So does Jessie Jackson and the Rainbow Push Coalition.
Why?
I had to look it up...
The Rainbow (or Gay Pride) Flag was created by artist and vexillographer [a person who designs or makes flags. I had to look THAT up too!] Gilbert Baker, in 1978. The flag debuted at the San Francisco Gay and Lesbian Freedom Day Parade. It has since been used around the world as a symbol of LGBT unity in many variations.Sex and magic were sold off to the HyperGlobalSuper Corporation in the mid nineties, apparently. But you didn't answer my question. Why use a rainbow as your symbol?
The original flag had eight stripes from top to bottom: pink (sexuality), red (life), orange (healing), yellow (sunlight), green (nature), turquoise (magic), indigo/blue (serenity), and violet (spirit). Within a year, the flag had shed two of its stripes—pink and violet. According to Gilbert, they "ran out of pink dye." The violet stripe was later taken out to create an even number of stripes on the flag.
I understand the pink triangle. That makes sense and once you understand that the triangle IS the symbol of gay oppression in Nazi Germany. A bit harsh, but a powerful symbol. No one is going to question that, and you own it. That's super branding. But, the dispersion of light as it travels through a triangular prism? Really? Why that?
What's worse, the rainbow was a symbol from God to after he wiped out all of humanity save one family, off the face of his earth ever again. God is kind of funny like that. At least, that's what I remember from my original teaching of the Genesis story in pre-K Sunday school.
What doesn't make sense here is why would the gay and lesbian community take that symbol? If you're going to take things out of the bible - why not salt? You know, Sodom and Gomorrah? All that jazz? That is infinitely more fun than a rainbow. And the story kind of goes with the lifestyle. It's in your face. Well, okay, I agree that a salt shaker would look really stupid on a Honda Fit, but you know what? So does a rainbow sticker.
Why not use a butterfly? Think about that for a moment. Wouldn't a butterfly, with the whole chrysalis and 'coming out' of the cocoon make a hell of a lot more sense than a rainbow? It's iconic. It's the least creepy of all the insects out there. It's a good brand an no one is using it.
And if you don't like that, how about a Rainbow Butterfly?

Break out the ABBA
He's the Prom Queen! An openly gay teen has been voted prom queen at his Los Angeles high school in a campaign that began as a stunt but ended up spurring discussion on the campus about gender roles and popularity.
Sergio Garcia said he felt "invincible" when he was crowned queen of the Fairfax High School dance at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel on Saturday.
Days before the dance, Garcia told fellow students that he was "not your typical prom queen candidate. There's more to me than meets the eye." He's a transformer!
He also promised that he would be wearing a suit on prom night, but "don't be fooled: Deep down, I am a queen." We know Sergio, we know.
And he made good of that promise Saturday, wearing a gray tuxedo topped off with the prized tiara. It clashed. At least he didn't go in drag. God knows someone would have had the same dress on and then Sergio would have had to choke a bitch and... well * whew * thank goodness that didn't happen.
Although many students were supportive of Garcia's run, others were upset and didn't understand why Garcia chose to run for prom queen. No doubt Heather Chandler, Regina George, and Carrie White are pissssed....
"I'm not really happy about that," said 17-year-old Juan Espinoza. "He should've run for prom king."
Juan is obviously a gay basher and needs to be re-educated for his intolerance. You know who I feel sorry for? The popular girls who got totally dissed. Hey, maybe all those girls can get together with the ACLU and sue in a class action lawsuit against the school and their fellow classmates for gender discrimination?

Important Questions
Sixteen Serious Questions Raised By
"Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer"
by: Max Burbank
Now my half cent of thought of this - at the conclusion of the show, Rudolph leads Santa to the Island of Misfit toys - which is probably Santa's Guantanamo Bay for depressingly broken toys. At best, it's the North Pole's Dollar Store. Santa loads up these broken, malfunctioning, and chromosome deficient toys in his sack of goodies as the credits roll.1.) WHY IS SANTA SUCH A COMPLETE BASTARD?
I'm going to say he has a chemical disorder, probably Bipolar. The elves sing him a very nice song and he's a total jerk about it, leaving the desperately co-dependent Mrs. Clause to patch things up. He has some sort of eating disorder that causes his weight to fluctuate wildly. He tells Dasher he should be ashamed for presenting Rudolph to the community simply because the child has some sort of nose disorder. He only changes his mind about Rudolph once he figures out a way to exploit him. Plus, this guy is absolutely ITCHING to cancel Christmas. Hey Santa. It's not your call. Christmas is the day Jesus was born. God will let you know if Christmas is cancelled. Until then, get in the damn sleigh.
2.) WHAT'S UP WITH CLARICE?
A generation of men my age is all screwed up because Rankin/Bass decided to make Clarice disturbingly attractive. She's a little forward, a little coy, and those eyelashes! I swear to God, we should all organize a class action suit to pay for our therapy.
3.) WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THE ELVES?
Why are they such fascists? Like the head elf isn't way different than all the others? And what about the tall elf?
Is he an engineer? Is he from MIT? Why is he tall? And how come the head elf and the tall elf don't get any sh*t but Hermy does?
4.) WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THE REINDEER?
Okay, Rudolph's glowing, squealing nose is weird as sh*t, but why do the other reindeer find it terrifying? What about a glowing, squealing nose makes other reindeers pupils shrink and their bodies convulse? And why does it mean the poor bastard can't 'play in any reindeer games'? He's the best at flying after Provocative; Jailbait Clarice...
...comes onto him. Is this like back when African Americans weren't allowed to play football?
5.) IS IT HERMY OR HERBIE?My word to God, he gets called both over the course of less than an hour.
6.) IS HERMY GAY?
Yes. Forty years ago you couldn't talk about homosexuality among puppets on TV, so they used the word 'dentist' instead of...
7.) IS YUKON CORNELIUS GAY?
Yukon Cornelius, like 7% of the population is asexual.
8.) WHAT'S THE DEALIO ON THAT FRIGGIN' TALKING SNOWMAN?
Forty years ago, Burl Ives, who lent his voice and a lot more of his image than you'd think to the Talking Snowman was a big star. Now nobody remembers hits like "The Big Rock Candy Mountain" (a song that is actually about Hobos dying of malnutrition, exposure and alcoholism) or "The Ugly Bug Ball" (which is actually about unattractive bugs gathering to dance) or his Oscar winning turn as "Big Daddy" in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof". All anyone remembers about Burl Ives is that he is the talking snowman and they don't even know he was really Burl Ives. I imagine this makes the ghost of Burl Ives just about as mad as f*ck.
9.) WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH TIME AT THE NORTH POLE?Okay, follow me here. Rudolph runs away from home right after Reindeer practice. He has adventures with Herbie and Yukon Cornelius and visits the Island of Misfit Toys. Then he leaves them behind and is off on his own long enough to enter puberty and grow antlers. Meanwhile, his Dad went to look for him right after he ran away, followed almost immediately by his mom and that Little Tart Clarice. The near adult Rudolph returns home to be informed by Santa that everyone's gone looking for him. We know it's been less than a year because Santa says he can't fly the team without Rudolph's dad, but it sure as hell has been a while. Rudolph goes directly to the Abominable snowman's cave JUST IN TIME TO STOP HIM FROM EATING THE ODDLY PROVOCATIVE...
...CLARICE! How are we supposed to view this sequence of events? Where Mom, dad and Clarice looking for Rudolph for almost a year before the Abominable caught them? It's just a coincidence Rudolph stumbles upon them moments after that? I think this stretches credulity. I'm forced to assume that somewhere in the vicinity of the Island of Misfit Toys there's an object of immense mass, perhaps a Fallen White Dwarf Star, and that proximity to this mass causes relativity in time so that Rudolph has aged nearly a year while only having left the Pole for about a day.
10.) DO CLARICE'S PARENTS JUST NOT GIVE A SH*T?Rudolph runs away and his folks go after him. Clarice disappears and her parents… don't appear in the special. Is she an orphan? Is that why she's always on the make, looking for the love she never got? Or maybe she's got that smokin' hot thing going on chicks get when Daddy can't be bothered.
Don't tell me you don't know what I'm talking about here. You want her as much as I do and you don't give a damn that she's a reindeer.
11.) WHY IS KING MOON RACER SO DAMN COOL?
Aside from the fact that a Lion with wings is pretty cool to begin with, no one knows. I mean what does he do? He's king of an Island of Misfit Toys and all he wants is for Santa to take them off his paws. Then what would he be king of? A lot of Permafrost, that's what. But he's still cool as hell and anyone who says he isn't can meet me out back for a serious beating.
12.) IS THE BUMBLE RETARDED OR WHAT?
Ten minutes before Herbie yanks his teeth out, This hulking brute snapped a damn stalactite of the roof of his cave and beat Rudolph unconscious with it. Now he's harmless cause he doesn't have teeth? HELLO! You still have huge friggin' claws! You're still a friggin' GIANT! Get another stalactite and beat Yukon Cornelius to prospector paste instead of letting him push you off a damn cliff!
13.) WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE DOLL ON THE ‘ISLAND OF MISFIT TOYS'?
She looks fine, right? She isn't. She wouldn't be on the ‘Island if Misfit Toys' if she was. Check it out. Rudy tells King Moon Racer that if he ever gets back to the North Pole he'll give Santa the 411 on the Misfits. Christmas Eve, when the doll thinks Santa isn't going to show, she goes on a crying jag and accuses Rudolph of having promised to help them. Okay, A.) He never made any damn promise B.) Rudolph doesn't run Christmas, Santa does and he's a complete, manic depressive bipolar bastard. I'll tell you why the doll is a misfit. She's a lying little bitch.
14.) WHY DOESN'T CHARLIE IN THE BOX CHANGE HIS NAME?
You can do that, you know. Have your name changed.
15.) WHY DOESN'T THE JELLY SQUIRTING WATER PISTOL EMPTY OUT THE JELLY AND PUT IN WATER?
I mean, it's not brain surgery. Stop looking for Santa to solve your problems. He's a bastard.
16.) WHY DOES RUDOLPH AGREE TO LEAD SANTA'S SLEIGH?
I mean, when someone treats you that way, all they deserve is a swift hoof in the nuts. I'm serious. Guide your own damn sleigh. Then when you crash in the Andes you can eat your Reindeer to survive. Nobody likes a skinny Santa.
What the hell? Is he asking for a lawsuit? These toys are broken! What poor ass kid deserves these loser kicknacks? With coal, at least you know you've been a little sh*t and you shouldn't have given your little sister a swirrly. But think of the puddles of tears some little tike who had bought into the whole 'good for goodness sake.' That poor kid would bawl buckets upon opening that damn Charlie in the Box? Bonus, it's not just his name... he's a depressing sad sack of an individual in-and-of-himself.
Perhaps Santa just dumped them on Africa? Right over the same country that was outfitted by Super Bowl XLI World Champions the Chicago Bears.Go Bears.
