Perhaps you're eating more Organic or even USDA Organic - there is a difference - Perhaps you've wondered where your food comes from. I'm sure, many people imagine a beautiful hippie commune nestled up to the foothills of a mountain, where a gentle waterfall supplies all the irrigation to their spring time spinach, touched by a hint of love. Not a single lady bug is harmed in the process.
Er, yeah. Right. But it begs the question of who really does own the biggest organic brands in the country? GOOD magazine made a sexy graph to share with you. (link pops a new window for you)
Some examples: Coke owns Odwalla, Pepsi owns Naked, and Kraft owns Boca Burgers.
The chart also shows you that these parent companies are among the top 30 food processing companies in the US, if not the world. This is not a scandal. Hell, this shouldn't even be surprising. However, it is important for consumers to know more about where your food is really coming from, especially if you're buying organic to stick it to the Man. You are not.
Take away: Just because it's organic doesn't mean it was made on a that happy communal love-farm. That only exists on the label.
