UPLAND — Grant County sheriff’s deputies continue to investigate how a former Muncie teenager died from a homemade bomb blast Sunday afternoon. Russell E. Cox, 19, Marion, died Sunday night at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, from massive injuries resulting from the blast. He attended Muncie Central High School and had moved to Marion.
Police got a call around 3:54 p.m. Sunday that a truck was on fire. Emergency crew found the truck had been blown up at a vacant house near Eastbrook High School.
Police are unsure why Cox set off the bomb and believed the victim checked the timer-activated bomb when it did not go off. The bomb reportedly had gunpower as an explosive and was taped to a propane cylinder.
Sheriff’s deputy Lt. Tim Holtzleiter said the investigation was ongoing, with state and federal authorities also involved.
Let's take a moment and thank Darwin for taking this guy out early.
But I guess you have to ask, hey, why WOULD a 19 year old kid be goofin' around with a timer and gunpowder on a propane cylinder?Next to a high school.... in a truck....hmmm...?
can't think of anything off the top of my head...
Thanks again Darwin. You might have saved some lives.
