The US diplomatic cables reveal how the US seeks dirt on nations opposed to its approach to tackling global warming; how financial and other aid is used by countries to gain political backing; how distrust, broken promises and creative accounting dog negotiations; and how the US mounted a secret global diplomatic offensive to overwhelm opposition to the controversial "Copenhagen accord", the unofficial document that emerged from the ruins of the Copenhagen climate change summit in 2009.

Negotiating a climate treaty is a high-stakes game, not just because of the danger warming poses to civilisation but also because re-engineering the global economy to a low-carbon model will see the flow of billions of dollars redirected.

Seeking negotiating chips, the US state department sent a secret cable on 31 July 2009 seeking human intelligence from UN diplomats across a range of issues, including climate change. The request originated with the CIA. As well as countries' negotiating positions for Copenhagen, diplomats were asked to provide evidence of UN environmental "treaty circumvention" and deals between nations.

Point of order here... have you noticed that they completely ignore the fact that all nations are involved? I did. Maurice Strong, who's embroiled all the world’s weather and climate bureaucracies when he organized the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change through the WMO. Anthony Watts describes what the WikiLeaks material exposes. “What really strikes us is the fact that all this Copenhagen/Cancun stuff has nothing to do with the Climate, or saving the World. It’s about political positioning, money, and plain old fascism cult promotion.”

ClimateFaith™ Loses a Physicist

In my ongoing questioning of all things unquestionable and taboo to question - and having few friends because of it - I continue to simply ask questions. One of those most taboo of subjects is ClimateFaith™ - the blind obsession with the idea that mankind has single-handedly ruined the earth and the thin bubble of oxygen that contains all of our stuff. Sure, we're messing it up faster than Gia Earth can clean up after us -- but our obsession with ruining all society and economic systems and also promoting eugenics to "save the planet" seems a tad bit extreme to me... and the blind faith that mimics organized religion. There's also a lot of money in this religion. It seems there is a new voice speaking up over the question of the blind ClimateFaith™ movement.

Anyone who has the faintest doubt that this is so should force himself to read the ClimateGate documents, which lay it bare. (Montford’s book organizes the facts very well.) I don’t believe that any real physicist, nay scientist, can read that stuff without revulsion. I would almost make that revulsion a definition of the word scientist.

Dyslexic Number Oops

So they flipped the numbers - a bit. Oops. What damage could false or incorrect numbers possibly caused?

Look - I don't want to be a denier here, but, come on guys - 10 authors let this one past. I agree that humans are changing their little space ship Earth -- and not in a fun 'I'd like to hang out here' kind of way. But, if we're going to make plausible arguments to try to not to wreck it, let's double check the work, okay?

In what I consider the most hypocritical item of the week - (and this beat out all the Democrats and MoveOn.Com who HATED General Petraeus and now sing his praises as the savior of US foreign policy because Mr. Obama 'friend-ed' him) - on one US coastline you have environmentalists holding hands on the beach to halt all oil drilling, (wearing green helmets made of plastic. Which is made of oil) and on another US coastline, you've got another set of environmentalists filing suit to keep their holy grail totems of 'green energy' from being built to save some birds.

I'm almost completely convinced that environmentalism has nothing to do with the environment, and everything to do with bringing down 'evil' capitalism. No energy source....coal, oil, gas, wind, solar, nuclear is acceptable to these people. But they still run out and stand in line to buy an iPhone 4. "I want my green energy, but I still will fight to the death for NIMBY. Not in My Back Yard." I don't know, I would think that a true ClimateFaither having a windmill on their property would be showing leadership and almost certain smugness. Why don't you hippies go form a commune - or better - join the Amish? No, the Amish probably wouldn't put up with their brand of bullsh*t.

Actually, I think this brand of environmentalism shows their true nature - they're so self loathing that they believe in the eradication of humans is the 'final solution' to save their precious earth. Not them though. Like other faiths - religious faith - they're the saved ones. These people are more dangerous than the Heaven's Gate cultists -- at least those souls took their lives and left the earth for what they believed in. These morons want their cake and eat it too - and none for you... which tells me they're all Baby Boomers.... and that these windmills are messing up their view of the Cape.

Or worse, are funded by the rich folks who live on the Cape astroturfing the concern for birds. Worse more, it's a scam to rip off Massachusetts for 10 million in 'mitigation fees.'

Copenhagen Ends Early: Due to Blizzard

The Copenhagen what-have-you was nothing more than window dressing for the ClimateFaithers™ back home. The intention was to come home and tell everyone "we participated" or "we're pledging to do something." Superfantastic. Nothing substantial, and no way to enforce whatever they did agree on. And what they did agree on was that using ClimateFaith™ to restructure capital and to shore up state power is a hellofagood idea.

There were back room deals, lots of trees cut down for half assed ideas and proposals. But at the center of it. India and China said go F*yourselves. And the other emerging markets and countries (such as Hugo Chavez) raised their collective fingers and waved them at the West. "We ain't to blame, and we ain't payin'," to paraphrase their position.

The whole thing turned into a giant bargaining table where extreme things were proposed to drive everyone to a minimal compromise. Two rival proposals came out: one billing the first world and one billing the third world for the cost. Neither we meant to be signed. Both were decoys for the screaming mob (home and outside the conference). Meanwhile the heads of state, working in private, settled on a pact which promised everything, enforces nothing and pays a pittance to the loudest of the third world and the low islands.See. Maybe we can all chip in and get them a nice canoe?

No one was scapegoated in public but when Phelim McAleer when through the conference in a polar bear suit calling for Phil Jones, people all knew who that meant. Phil is the climate guy who until a couple weeks ago was the Director of the Climatic Research Unit. They swore at him, threw things at him and tried to interfere with the camera and sound man. Phil at the heart f the UEA CRU scandal. Polar bear suits were banned soon after.

Behind closed doors I suspect Phil got mentioned more than once. Could any government have mentioned climategate in public? The conference was teaming with ClimateFaithful™ that were so fanatical that even the body guards of a dozen countries combined could not have held them back.

So what's the midnight deal.

The key features of note are that the targets a set in terms of temperature not CO2. This means that the 2 degrees target will be met by all because there is no real warming. Governments can later report on the current cooling trend as if its a new discovery and back away from CO2 reduction and commitments. That is, as long as the sun cooperates.

Expect a lot on negative feed back soon.

Also the non binding CO2 commitments and non binding financial commitments. None of there will be enforceable or enforced. Solar energy technology depends on the cost of that technology, those costs are falling but with the dollar falling faster this means few renewables than the free-market, free from both Keynesian policies and government subsidies, would have delivered. Or the cost of oil has to go skyrocketing again.

A few tens of billions have been promised to the third world and low islands. So that aid is wrapped in a different package - used to be just a handout, now it's a climate change handout.

Annnnddd... the best part, there's a huge blizzard descending on Copenhagen! Everyone may be stuck for a few days. Some noted that huge numbers of people flew in private Jets. These have been parked at smaller airports across the region. They are stuck. Al Gore may have to hitch a ride home on the Rainbow Warrior. We'll get to see what happens when a few thousand Bureaucrats, a quarter of a million bored but angry ClimateFaith™ followers, communists and anarchists all get stranded in a snow storm together! Doubt there will be many snow angels. The cops have had it with cold riot gear and frozen batons, and they'll want to try to stay warm.

Coal power plants emit carbon dioxide (CO₂), the pollutant that Al Gore says is causing the climate crisis. A third of the America's carbon pollution now comes from about 600 coal-fired power plants. And of the more than 70 proposed new coal power plants, barely a handful have plans to capture and store their CO₂ emissions. If these dirty plants are allowed to be built, this will mean an additional 200 million tons of global warming pollution will be emitted in America each year. Until coal power plants no longer release CO₂ to the atmosphere, coal will remain a major contributor to the climate crisis.

Ahem... ClimateFaith, that's mine!

It seems the Wall Street Journal reads this here blog.

They have done a piece that, granted a bit more intelligently than I, discusses the Faith of ClimateChange(tm) and the lack of science.

Bret Stephens seems to have looked at my work. He seems to have come to the same conclusion that I have - GlobalWarming/Climate Change is not based on science or (at least) good science. It has become a vehicle of ideological convenience... for Socialism. It's also based on faith, or theology - to which he has added the element of fear. And the last is psychological, and dealing with penance, which he remarks that's remarkable since penance sells strongly among a mostly secular audience. (link-age)

You know, I just wish they'd throw some credit around every so often, ya know? Sure, he'll lose his job for mentioning "Some Cap'n who writes on a Blog that he hijacked from OneF and Killre..." I know I'm starting to sound like a broken record here - a scratched CD - a half downloaded MP3...

I have contended on these pages that the Earth will not warm at the rate that the climate models suggest because they aren't factoring enough variables. There are a LOT of variables. However, three specific variables that I've never seen put into a climate model, because they're just too unpredictable. First, the heat sinks that are the Earth's Oceans. Second, the volatility of our atmosphere. Third, and most recently pointed out - Sun spots.

The Oceans not only absorb, but also reflect the sun's rays. More and less water change the equation for any climate model. It's too hard to predict, so that data is usually just ignored.

Second, our atmosphere. We know a little bit about how it works, but not enough to predict it. What happened to the Ozone layer? Why was there a hole? Why isn't there one now? Uh... Just leave that out, Timmy.

Ozone in the troposphere, up to 10 kilometres above the Earth's surface, is the third most important anthropogenic greenhouse gas after carbon dioxide and methane.

Yet climate models are not very precise when it comes to predicting where and in what quantities the gas is produced and removed. Part of the problem is that the molecule is largely recycled above the tropical oceans, where data is sparse.

When they began to measure how the concentrations of ozone in the troposphere varied over time, they discovered that 13% of ozone is lost each day in this area, not 8% as predicted by models.

Third, Sun Spots. According to some of the things I've posted here for you to absorb - to toss out as an alternate point of view to the norm (again, check the masthead) the temperature of the earth MIGHT actually be related to the fluctuations of the giant nuclear fireball in the center of our solar system. Fancy that?

Here's the thing - I'm not sure. I'm not positive that I'm right. There, I've said it. Problem here, is that there isn't a debate. There's only junk science and the blind religion based on "Climate Change" band-waggoning. Non-thinking, blind acceptance to something that has not yet been observed in more than an anecdotal fashion... THAT IS NOT SCIENCE. That is FAITH....

So I'd like to start calling those that blindly follow this religion of ClimateFaith, ClimateThumpers.

Global Warming Update

Well, here I go again. Doubting that the world will end up looking like Venus. But at least I'm not alone as - More than 31,000 scientists have signed a petition denying that man is responsible for global warming.

Wow. 9000 of the 31,000 have PhD's, even.

"There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of ... greenhouse gases is causing or will, in the forseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth’s atmosphere and disruption of the Earth’s climate. Moreover, there is substantial scientific evidence that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide produce many beneficial effects upon the natural plant and animal environments."

Meanwhile, if you think that this will stop the religion of environmentalists, even I know better than that. The environmental 'green' movement will be championed by WalMart and McDonald's as a way to limit their energy usage - not to save the earth - but to save their profit margin by NOT spending money on extra energy cost, and therefore generating more money for their stockholders.

Don't be totally surprised to see McDonald's turning a profit from used fry oil in the not too distant future.

WIRED magazine has done some math. They've actually weighed the issues of global warming/climate change (or whatever we're calling it this week) and puts the smack down on the green movement for not doing the same.

For instance - not embracing Nuclear power as a carbon-free alternative to the massive black coal plants that dot the American landscape. Al Dodges Questions About the International Food Crisis, Ethanol and Climate Alarmism

A remarkable thing happened Thursday: a press member wanted to ask Nobel Laureate Al Gore about the growing international food crisis and how it relates to ethanol and global warming hysteria. It's something I might have mentioned before anyone else, ah, but who the hell is reading Blasphemes anyway?

Not surprisingly, the man who cast the tie-breaking vote in the Senate fourteen years ago mandating the use of ethanol wasn't available, and a spokesman for his hysteria-driving Alliance for Climate Protection declined to comment.

Well, Isn't that convenient?

Maybe this is why Gore isn't allowing press members into his speeches? Just a guess?

Meanwhile, in response to the global rice shortage - Costco and Sam's Clubs are limiting members to only 4 tons of rice (per visit). They still love you though.

Time for a Better Idea

Who the hell at Time Magazine thought that this was even remotely a good idea?

This is insulting.

It's a lot more insulting than when Kieth Olbermann and Bob Costas turned out the studio lamps on Sunday Night Football in America - but kept the 19 70" plasma monitors plugged in. And their cameras, and the mics, and the control room, and the satellite... that was just a dumb stunt.

It's the fact that they couldn't have a suburban mom, a Starbucks barista, a gothy-emo teenager, and a black dude in khakis and a blue shirt - you know, typical 'Mericans - planting that tree LIKE the Iwo Jima image... that COULD have turned heads with out pissing people off.

(Hmmm... on second thought, modern 'Mericans would have been an outsourced call center Indian lady named "Helen", an illegal Mexican lawncare specialist, an adopted Chinese baby, and an illegal Polish house cleaner?)

Global Warming Update

Did you know that the founder of the Weather Channel, John Coleman, is suing Al Gore?

He figures it is the only way to really get a healthy debate on record.

"Is he committing financial fraud? That is the question," Coleman said.

"Since we can't get a debate, I thought perhaps if we had a legal challenge and went into a court of law, where it was our scientists and their scientists, and all the legal proceedings with the discovery and all their documents from both sides and scientific testimony from both sides, we could finally get a good solid debate on the issue," Coleman said. "I'm confident that the advocates of 'no significant effect from carbon dioxide' would win the case."

I bring it to your attention since there is little to zero reporting of this issue or litigation in the popular press. He continues:

"Does carbon dioxide cause a warming of the atmosphere? The proponents of global warming pin their whole piece on that," he said.

The compound carbon dioxide makes up only 38 out of every 100,000 particles in the atmosphere, he said.

"That's about twice as what there were in the atmosphere in the time we started burning fossil fuels, so it's gone up, but it's still a tiny compound," Coleman said. "So how can that tiny trace compound have such a significant effect on temperature?

"My position is it can't," he continued. "It doesn't, and the whole case for global warming is based on a fallacy."

Interesting development - throwing such things as facts, figures, and observable scientific data into a debate that will surely turn him to a social pariah. However, his reasoning is that due to Gore's "baloney" it's messing up his product of accurate weather prediction that people depend on to live their lives.

Ice Age?! - Hey, wait a minute...II

The U.S. National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) reported that many American cities and towns suffered record cold temperatures in January and early February. According to the NCDC, the average temperature in January "was -0.3 F cooler than the 1901-2000 (20th century) average."

China is surviving its most brutal winter in a century.

In just the first two weeks of February, Toronto received 70 cm of snow, smashing the record of 66.6 cm for the entire month set back in the pre-SUV, pre-Kyoto, pre-carbon footprint days of 1950.

And remember the lost Arctic Sea ice that will kill the polar bears off? The ice that last fall had melted to its "lowest levels on record? Never mind that those records only date back as far as 1972 and that there is anthropological and geological evidence of much greater melts in the past....

Well, that ice is back.

Gilles Langis, a senior forecaster with the Canadian Ice Service in Ottawa, says the Arctic winter has been so severe the ice has not only recovered, it is actually 10 to 20 cm thicker in many places than at this time last year.

One winter does not a climate make. It might be premature to claim an Ice Age is looming.

But if environmentalists and environment reporters can run around shrieking about the manmade destruction of the natural order every time a robin shows up on Georgian Bay two weeks early, then it is at least fair game to use this winter's weather stories to wonder whether the alarmist are being a tad premature.

Stuff White People Like

Recycling is a part of a larger theme of stuff white people like: saving the earth without having to do that much.

Recycling is fantastic! You can still buy all the stuff you like (bottled water, beer, wine, organic iced tea, and cans of all varieties) and then when you’re done you just put it in a DIFFERENT bin than where you would throw your other garbage. And boom! Environment saved! Everyone feels great, it’s so easy!

This is important because all white feel guilty about producing waste. It doesn’t stop them from doing it, but they feel guilty about it. Deep down, they believe they should be like the Native Americans and use every part of the product or beast they have consumed. Though for many white people, this simply means putting plastic bags into a special drawer where they will accumulate until they are eventually used to carry some gym clothes or bathing suit. Ultimately this drawer will get full and only be emptied when the person moves to a new house. Advanced white recyclers will uses these grocery bags as garbage bags.

If you are in a situation where a white person produces an empty bottle, watch their actions. They will first say “where’s the recycling?” If you say “we don’t recycle,” prepare for some awkwardness. They will make a move to throw the bottle away, they will hesitate, and then ultimately throw the bottle away. But after they return look in their eyes. All they can see is the bottle lasting forever in a landfill, trapping small animals. It will eat at them for days, at this point you should say “I’m just kidding, the recycling is under the sink. Can you fish out that bottle?” And they will do it 100% of the time!

The best advice is that if you plan to deal with white people on regular basis either start recycling or purchase a large blue bin so that they can believe they are recycling.

So due to a new solar cycle not starting - something something, no new sunspots - there's a new Ice Age right around the corner. Like, next week?

Observational data seems to support the claims -- or doesn't contradict it, at least. According to data from Britain's Met Office, the earth has cooled very slightly since 1998. The Met Office says global warming "will pick up again shortly." Others aren't so sure.

Well, this is like telling me that cigarettes cure cancer. I'm sick and tired of contradictory data leaking out every two weeks! Are we heating up or cooling off - can we make up our friggin' minds, please?

I think the proper thing to say is that Earth's environment is prone to change due to "an assortment of variables". This report simply states that one of the bigger variables may be about to change.

Solar activity, greenhouse gas entrapment, deforestation and urban heat traps all cause temperatures to rise. Diminished solar activity and global dimming cause temperatures to fall. Increases in the speed of ocean currents normalize global temperatures, with decreases in speeds causing equatorial and tropical latitudes to warm up, temperate and polar latitudes to cool down.

So countered with global dimming, diminished solar activity might offset global warmed as caused by greenhouse gases. However, eventually solar activity may increase again.

Either way, you're still going to die. Smoke 'em if you've got 'em.

Toxic Lightbulbs

In an attempt to save the planet from ourselves, you may have purchased a few fluorescent lightbulbs to replace the .03 cent ones that you're more accustomed to using.

Here's a detailed 10 step guide to dealing with broken light bulbs has been drawn up by the UK House of Commons Commission—an organization responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Parliamentary estate.

Naturally, this had many taxpayers in an uproar. It seems that the people are angry that they need tax money to tell them how to throw away a lightbulb. A spokesman for the Taxpayers' Alliance referred to the list as "ridiculous." He went on to gripe about how public officials are being paid to write "guidelines on how to use a dustpan and brush." However, Fluorescent bulbs contain mercury. Not something to play around with - anymore.

But right when you think that the nanny state will step in and educate the public - Nick Harvey, the Commission spokesman, said nothing of mercury in his response. Instead, he noted that the guidelines were necessary, because "there had been an incident where a light bulb had been broken and placed in a waste paper bin. Someone had picked it out and cut their finger." So it appears that a portion of the commission's £144 million budget is spent on band-aid prevention?

I have not seen such warnings from Al Gore, nor our own governmental bodies warning of the mercury that these bulbs contain, nor am I aware of my disposal procedures for such bulbs in the U.S. Feel free to forward that message along in the comments section. Expect these to be filling up our landfills and entering the water supply in, oh, about 5-7 years when they burn out.
