Jalapenos

Heterosexual, white boy, Methodists.

This song/video is supposedly causing people to get really upset? Politicians are trying to ban it?

The Bellamy Brothers’ newest song release titled “Jalapenos” is being met with great controversy over the lyrics, which are very politically and sexually charged regarding some of the current political and pop-cultural events, such as gun control, immigration issues, and Tiger Woods affairs... sounds a lot like this here blog?

Furthermore, the song is accompanied by a music video featuring actors wearing giant masks, for example Sarah Palin, Barack Obama, Tiger Woods, and of course girls in string bikinis are featured throughout the video.

The Bellamy Brothers stated that they hope their new song “Jalapenos” does not offend anyone, they were just trying to add a smile to people’s faces as they always have. I wonder if their passports will still be valid on their way home from their European tour?

Seriously though - Banning this? Come on? Meantime, I'm sure Ray Stevens is watching these developments closely.

Doin' a Heckofa Job, BP

In the long time honored tradition of putting one's foot into their mouth, especially when there's a live microphone around, BP is quickly catching up with Vice President Biden in the gaff and stupidity ranking.

BP CEO Tony Hayward, whose company just hired a former spokeswoman for Vice President Dick Cheney to help handle the media, since the company's Deepwater Horizon oil rig blew up on April 20. The blast killed 11 people and sent thick, rust-colored oil billowing into the Gulf of Mexico, destroying natural habitats and devastating the coastal economy.

BP initially estimated that between 1,000 and 5,000 barrels of oil were gushing into the gulf each day. The current consensus pegs the figure at between 12,000 and 19,000 barrels. At 44 days in, it is already the biggest spill in U.S. history, and with plan Double Q and the specter of the Obama Administration calling the shots... it hasn't been a good couple months for them.

And their CEO isn't exactly helping. Here's some of Hayward's bizarre statements that I've cut'n'pasted that he's stated since the accident:

On April 29, The New York Times reported that Hayward, apparently exasperated, turned to fellow executives in his London office and asked, “What the hell did we do to deserve this?" Perhaps, perhaps his company's 760 safety violations over the last three years? ExxonMobil, in contrast, has had just one.

On May 14, Hayward attempted to persuade The Guardian that "the Gulf of Mexico is a very big ocean. The amount of volume of oil and dispersant we are putting into it is tiny in relation to the total water volume." A drop in the bucket. Guess no one told him the East Coast gets a lot of shrimp from the area? Nothing pisses off people than inflated shrimp cocktail prices!

Only a few days later, he told Sky News that "the environmental impact of this disaster is likely to be very, very modest." That might surprise the many scientists who see the spill as a true environmental calamity, the full extent of which remains unclear.

On May 30, Hayward was less bullish and decided to play the sympathy card. He told the Today show that "there’s no one who wants this over more than I do. I would like my life back." In all fairness, he did apologize for that one.

On May 31, he told the world that ecosystem-threatening underwater oil plumes—consisting of droplets of partially dissolved oil suspended in water that many scientists have observed—do not exist. He said simply, "There aren't any plumes."

On June 1, Hayward responded to claims that cleanup workers were being sickened by the fumes from the oil they were exposed to by suggesting another possible, non-oil-spill cause. When nine workers fell ill, according to Yahoo News, he told CNN that "food poisoning is clearly a big issue." Must be all that tainted shrimp from the Gulf?

But Hayward is not alone in his manful struggle to spin the news in the face of daunting factual evidence. His colleague Bob Dudley, managing director of BP, told NBC's Meet the Press on May 30 that "I think Tony's doing a fantastic job." Why on the planet Earth and good peer reviewed science would anyone ever paraphrase President George W. Bush's poorly managed Gulf Coast disaster, FEMA Director Michael Brown, "Doin' a heckuva job, Brownie"???

Worst oil disaster since 1989 Exxon Valdez. Worst PR disaster since... uh, I'm starting to wonder how high up this is going to go. We're way past Tom Cruise on Oprah's couch. I think we're approaching Tiger Wood levels now.

Meantime, here are 62 other uses of BP and photoshop.

The Week In Review/Sunday Comics

This isn't news. Stop looking at it, maybe it'll go away. Everyone is sorry that they got caught.

Dirty Cheater Olympics.
Mrs. Obama is tackling the obesity problem. Part of that 'freedom' take-away they're instituting. Free to be a fat ass. The best part is, the cost of food has fallen, but the price of medical care is skyrocketing? Correlating evidence? You bet.

Epic Beard Man took on some dude on a bus. Seth MacFarlane Responds to Sarah Palin's Attacks after having a down syndrome character on Family Guy.

Meanwhile, the Marines are taking Afghanistan, one mile at a time - (no one seems to have noticed) and the CIA is striking the Taliban senior leadership one #2 at a time. (no one seems to have noticed this either).

There's a Blaspheme's Convention, and I've disappointed the host by not attending. I can give excuses and real reasons why I was unable to attend, but no matter what I say - it's nothing more than a lousy excuse.

So instead I'll complain that humanity isn't reaching for the stars anymore.

Accenture Cuts Woods

Technology outsourcing and consulting firm Accenture Plc said it was ending its six-year sponsorship arrangement with golfer Tiger Woods, who is embroiled in a scandal involving extra-marital affairs with numerous women.

"Given the circumstances of the last two weeks, after careful consideration and analysis, the company has determined that he is no longer the right representative for its advertising," Accenture said in a statement.

Accenture, once the consulting side of Arthur Andersen - Arthur Andersen who cooked the books for Enron, and led to one of the most corrupt collapses in American business history... you'd think they'd give Tiger a break? I mean, he only admitted to sleeping with a couple women who weren't his wife. You'd think Accenture would be used to having crooked friends hanging out?

Accenture is in line for BLASPHEMES HYPOCRITE OF THE WEEK, already, and it's only Monday.

Meanwhile, commercials featuring Woods have disappeared from prime-time TV. I wouldn't have noticed - I have TiVo. I haven't seen an advertisement since 2003.

Woods has won 14 major titles and 71 PGA Tour events and is the first athlete to earn $1 billion. He is believed to be the wealthiest sports personality in the world.

Nevertheless, several of Woods' biggest celebrity endorsement sponsors, which include Nike, PepsiCo's Gatorade and Electronic Arts, recently said that they continue to support their commercial icon. That is, until they pull the "morality clause" in their endorsement contracts.

A morals clause is a provision in a contract or official document that prohibits certain behavior in a person's private life. They deal with behavior such as sexual acts and drug use. They were commonly used in the contract between actors/actresses and film studios to uphold the public image sought to be portrayed by the studio. Morals clauses are included today in certain contracts of public figures, such as athletes, actors/actresses...

Expect the morals clause to be enacted when Woods is no longer a positive image for selling their wears.
