Satire is Dead

So then there's this.

Vanity Fair
, a late comer to the New Yorker cover fiasco, went and drew up this parody of a crap failure of a parody. As you can see, it's like taking the square root of comic FAIL.

Not only is McCain not depicted as a caricature of feverish political imagination (he doesn't even look half bad here, actually), but there's not a bit of exaggerated element in the pic. Oh, sure, save perhaps the burning Constitution in the fireplace. And was it really McCain that is associated with the BBQ of that old parchment?

Ole' Cindy enjoys her pills... and the McCain family likes the incumbent well enough to hang a portrait of him. Oooh. Damningly funny.

The walker? Old joke. That's another Dud.

Again, to beat that dead horse - the last one wasn't funny. This isn't even a good parody of the New Yorker. What the hell, people? Is satire completely dead? Hell, the Masthead of this Blog is funnier than the goddamned Vanity Fair cover.

Yes. That's it. Stop the CPR, The Onion.
I'm calling it.
Satire Is Dead.

Dude.
Um.....You're wrong. There is so much incorrect in your assessment of satire that, really, just stop for a second.

Satire has been around since Roman times, & maybe before that.

You are also confusing satire & comedy. Satire, which is an attack on something for any number of reasons, need not be "funny."

The United States owns no patent on satire or irony. It exists in all cultures, climates, and languages.

Is Vanity Fair conservative compared to the New Yorker? They are actually being very "meta" satirical. Here they lampoon another periodical's gaffe, other's reaction to that gaffe, and a leading politician of the time.

Mmm.....that's good satire.

Here's a question for you:

How many people get what you're doing in your masthead? If few of them get the reference, your satire is broken. Call tech support.

Seriously.

But it isn't funny.

It doesn't make fun of the New Yorker.

Capn is a terrible writer - but I get what the point is.
