Stones and Marty

I've been dying to put this up -

A guide to Stones tunes in Scorsese films

Somehow, Rolling Stones music and Martin Scorsese images blend perfectly. Gin and Tonic.

“There is a drive and authority to their music and also an edge to it,” Martin Scorsese explains in notes for “Shine a Light.”

Here’s a little guide to the Stones songs he has used to set the tone, the time, the feeling... the following scenes:

‘Mean Streets’ (1973)

“Jumpin’ Jack Flash”: Robert De Niro's Johnny Boy enters. He swaggers his step into the Little Italy bar with a slutty chick on each arm.

“Tell Me”: Introducing the conflicted mobster Charlie. Harvey Keitel "boogies" into a strip club and has a drink.

■‘GoodFellas’ (1990)

“Gimme Shelter”: Ray Liotta's Henry Hill, against Pauly’s orders, starts dealing cocaine.

“Monkey Man”: Henry juggles his family, girlfriend and lots of cocaine. Encore: He and wife Lorraine Bracco stash guns in her mom’s garbage can. Best paranoid coke dealer sequence ever put on film.

“Memo From Turner”: Henry thinks police helicopters are following him.

‘Casino’ (1995)

“Can’t You Hear Me Knockin’ ”: Joe Pesci's Nicky Santono sets up his Vegas crew. Awesome.

“Gimme Shelter”: Nicky's string of murders montage. Encore: Cops shoot a thug.

“Heart of Stone”: Casino boss 'Ace' Robert De Niro falls for sexy hustler Ginger McKenna - Sharon Stone.

“Long Long While”: Nicky grabs a pen and sticks it in some guy's jugular.

“(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction”: (technically it's the Devo cover) Ace gets really mad at his adulterous, drugged out, pimped out ho of a wife.

“Sweet Virginia”: Ace kicks Cowboy to the curb.

■ ‘The Departed’ (2006)

“Gimme Shelter”: Meet mob boss Costello Jack Nicholson: “No one gives it to you. You have to take it.”

“Let It Loose”: Costello welcomes Leonardo DiCaprio, William 'Billy' Costigan Jr. by smashing his broken arm. Let it loose indeed.

“Gimme Shelter”: Song re-boots half way into the film.

Seeing as how the Stones have made enough money out of Marty just for the film rights and royalties in soundtrack sales - it's no wonder they tapped him to shoot the Shine a Light show. Anyone check it out yet? I'm thinking - J from Chi probably did. Lookin' for a review. I'm a little gun shy, as I don't want to look at the Crypt Keeper Richard's bloodhound wrinkle face for 2 hours in close up... So I'm lookin' for that review before I throw a ten spot on the ticket counter.
