But I still don't understand it."

Ah... not so much.
Unless you count the five-minute, 8 mm epics with titles like "Betty's Clown Dance" and "Dominant Betty Dances With Whip."
She did appear in three filmed burlesque shows: Striporama (1953), Varietease (1954) and Teaserama (1955)... you can Netflix one or two of these.
She was mostly in smut mags such as Wink, Whisper and Flirt in the 50's Her most legit work was Playboy. The picture of her topless next to the Christmas tree? She was the 13'th centerfold.
They did make a movie about her - and she was the inspiration for a character in the Rocketeer and a tatoo of her spoke in the X-Files (Jodie Foster was the voice - for some reason??)
What's more interesting is that she was the most happy and the most stable when she was making those pictures. She literally went nuts and was institutionalized after she got all Stabby.
