Pizza Hut employee shoots would-be robber

Delivery driver, Michael Shaker, shot a man who "allegedly" was trying to rob the Pizza Hut where he was employed.

Police reports say that Spencer Simmons, 44, attempted to rob the Pizza Hut on Broadway Street at about 11 PM.

Simmons pointed a .25 Raven Arms semi-automatic handgun at the store’s cashier and demanded money. The cashier loaded about $720 into a small bag.

Michael Shaker heard the commotion and snuck to the back and walked to within six to seven feet of Simmon's location.

Shaker gave Simmons a verbal warning. Simmons “lifted and swung his gun up towards” Shaker. Shaker fired one round from his personal 9mm Kel-Tec, hitting Simmons in the back of his head.

Simmons was transported to Wishard Memorial Hospital in Indianapolis, and police did not know the man’s condition.

Charges have not been filed against Simmons, but he is in the custody of police at the hospital.

Casey added that Shaker was licensed to carry a handgun.

Pizza Hut spokesman Chris Fuller said in an emailed statement that the company is cooperating with the police investigation.

“The safety of our employees is one of our top priorities,” Fuller said.

No word yet if he'll be discharged for violating Pizza Hut's no-weapons rule.

Ronald Honeycutt didn't hesitate to defend himself when a 'customer' drew a weapon on him. Honeycutt faced no criminal charges, because prosecutors decided that he acted in self-defense. But the 39-year-old did lose his job: Carrying a gun violated Pizza Hut's no-weapons rule.

"It's not fair," says Honeycutt of Carmel, Ind., who has found another pizza-delivery job and continues to carry a gun. "There is a constitutional right to bear arms. If I'm going to die, I'd rather be killed defending myself," he told the USA Today.

Gun owners are also fighting back, boycotting companies that ban guns or fire workers for having them. And with damn fine good reasons, other than just upholding their Constitutional rights...

The Allen County Coroner completed an autopsy on the body of 33-year-old Ian Jacob Grace found shot to death on a city street Sunday night and ruled his death a homicide. Ian Jacob Grace was delivering a pizza and had been robbed.

Police found Grace with gunshot wounds around 10:30 Sunday night. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ian was Fort Wayne's 20th homicide of the year. Wonder how many others were delivery guys?

3 Democrats — 2 senators, 1 governor — to Retreat, er, Retire

With the 2010 election year barely under way, two senators and one governor — all Democrats — ditched plans to run for re-election in the latest signs of trouble the Democrats. My guess is that, like every heist movie, they've decided that the bags are heavy enough and it's time to run.

Chris Dodd of Connecticut and Byron Dorgan of North Dakota were seen running for the exits with their bags of money, saying their work was done. Plus, Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter bailed for the lifeboat as Democrats see a struggle to defend themselves. They must be amazed that the people are actually paying attention?

Dodd's political problems started when he ran for president, which doesn't really play well at home, and further compounded later in 2008 when it was revealed that he had been included in a special VIP mortgage loan program by Countrywide CEO Angelo Mozilo. Dodd insisted he was unaware of his inclusion and he was cleared of any wrongdoing by the Senate Ethics Committee. "Oh, was that sweetheart .01% mortgage deal wrong? Really?" He was playing around with the Healthcare bill, was right in the middle of the AIG situation, and who knows what else he's done behind closed doors? Luckily, the political damage has been done. His constituents are finally paying attention. Well - Bye!

Like the folks who think that Dick Cheney and his cohorts should stand trial for their actions, I say, if you're going to pursue Cheney, you have to go after Dodd too. Dodd's done more damage to the American people than anyone in the Al Queda organization. But like every politician in DC, they take their cash, and ride off in a limo waving their middle finger at the rest of us 'little people'. That is, all except for Nixon. They had to airlift his ass out.

But get off your chairs, my Democrat friends, there are six Republican Senators retiring as well. Florida, Ohio, Missouri, New Hampshire, Kansas and Kentucky, are not running for re-election in 2010. Apparently they're either making way for the newly branded "libertarian" styled Republicans?

Either way, I'm fairly certain I have proclaimed that they would come in, take as much as they possibly could, announce retirement - sit on their 196 foot yachts and sip martinis as the Zombie Apocalypse begins. I guess they figured out that zombies don't surf? I, for one, am all for giving those Zombies Ski-Doos to right that which is wrong.

Is This Racist?

How do you survive a crowd of "awkward" black people?

According to KFC's latest [Australian] advertisement a bucket of fried chicken will do the trick.

Is this racist? You tell me.

Now, apparently, a flustered white guy gets out of an "awkward situation"--which in this case appears to mean being stuck in a crowd of happy, cheering fans who is supporting a team that the white fan isn't supporting, defuses the tension of buying tickets for the wrong seats by ordering in fried chicken for himself and the neighbors around him. At least, that's how I'd defuse this race card time bomb for KFC.

KFC American offices are going to have to throw KFC Aus. under the bus for this one.
