Will John Madden's man crush on Favre get him killed this year?
In what was SUPPOSED to be a way to celebrate twenty years on the virtual gridiron, this year's Madden WASN'T going to feature a current football superstar, but instead is turned to an NFL legend: "ex-Former" Green Bay Packer (and There's Something About Mary) star Brett Favre .
"Brett Favre is [was/is again?] a perfect fit for the Madden NFL 09 cover, as he [used to, kind of still does] epitomize everything the franchise has stood for the past 20 years - longevity, excellence, and a love of football," said Madden NFL 09's executive producer Dale Jackson... back in April.
Sure Favre is one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in the NFL. He's destined for the Hall of Fame, is the only three-time MVP in the league, and finished his 17-year career as the NFL's all-time leader in touchdowns, completions, attempts, yards and wins. The man was good... the job hat he retired from and un-retired from, and as of this writing - WAS JUST reinstated to Green Bay - so at least they got the cover art right. He will be wearing the jersey that is on the cover of this year's Madden... That would have been kind of embarrassing.
But then there's the Madden curse...
As you know, folks that have been featured on past covers of Madden have shown an uncanny knack for getting injured shortly after the game's release -- creating the legend of the "Madden curse" -- so perhaps Brett should [have] just stay retired? I wonder if the Green Bay front office took that into consideration when Favre turned down $20 million to stay retired.
Madden NFL 09 is due out on August 12.

Who cares about this "Redneck Hamlet"? All I know and care about is that if the Cubs play .500 the rest of the way, the Brewers will have to play .600 to catch them. Good luck cheeseheads.
