Every year I’ve been updating the list of players who are in the original Nintendo games RBI Baseball, Tecmo Bowl and Tecmo Super Bowl and still active in their respective leagues.
Unfortunately, it looks like this may be the last year such an update is needed.
RBI Baseball
In 2007, both Roger Clemens and Julio Franco were still active in the Major Leagues, but sadly neither has touched a bat or ball this season.
While the steroid scandal has knocked Clemens out of the league, Julio Franco simply became too old for teams to consider, turning 49 this year.
The dream is over and RBI Baseball is without a single active player joining the ranks of Tecmo Bowl who lost its last player in 2005 when Jerry Rice retired.
Tecmo Super Bowl
The dream is still alive for Tecmo Super Bowl, with Jeff Feagles again making the roster for the New York Giants as a punter.
Both Junior Seau and John Carney are no longer listed on any active rosters and appear to finally be retired. Jeff George, another player who seems to appear on rosters mid-season, did not play a game in 2007 and no teams have shown interest.
Go Jeff Feagles, go!
Update: I should also note that Morton Andersen played 14 games last year for the Falcons, but is not currently listed on their roster. The Falcons have two kickers on their roster, including veteran and pro-bowl kicker Jason Elam. One would expect Andersen to be picked up if one of these two go down.
