Frankly, I see the modern day as more of a mixture of Orwell and Huxley. Some of it designed, some of accidental. The difference is Orwell was writing about England falling into Communism, whereas Huxley was writing about the US falling into Hedonism.
Pound for pound, the dystopian sci fi
prediction that got it right was Brave New World. The power structure isn't a boot to the face, it's people wandering
through their day on anti anxiety drugs being encouraged to enjoy
themselves like mindless cattle.
