Tories Gain in British Vote, but Fail to Secure Majority

After one of the most passionately contested elections in decades, the opposition Conservative Party made big gains but did not secure a majority of seats in Parliament.

The Conservatives, led by David Cameron, won the largest number of seats, dozens more than Labour, with the third party, the left-of-center Liberal Democrats, failing to make the gains forecast before Thursday's vote. But no single party commanded a majority and on Friday there was no definitive indication about the likely complexion of a new government.

Without a majority, Mr. Cameron -- and the country -- could be heading for days of agonizing uncertainty as the two main parties set about trying to outmaneuver each other for power.

Hey Americans, you sure you want that multi-party system now? One thing that I would like to steal from the UK would be their one month election cycle. That's it. Just a month. That said, they're still campaigning everyday just like in the States. Maybe just a little less obviously.
