But the victim also had a gun. He shot and killed one suspect, 17-year-old Kevin Ollie. Ollie's gun also went off, and he accidentally shot the other teen robber before he died.
The robbery victim's family says he had no choice but to fight back.
The District Attorney's office agreed. Chief Deputy District Attorney Kent Lovern said the victim acted in self-defense and will not be charged with any crime.
But the surviving robber, Damien Cole, 19, has been charged with felony murder for his role in the incident where some died during the commission of another crime.
He could get up to 55 years in prison on that charge.
Cole also faces charges of armed robbery and attempted armed robbery.

ReplyDeleteConcealed carry isn't allowed by law in Wisconsin, so how did the guy being robbed get away with it. Yes, this seems to be legitimate self-defense, but where was his weapon. I'm very surprised he got off without a serious trial. Maybe its because the mayor of Milwaukee just took a massive meeting for defending a woman in need. Who knows!
ReplyDeleteYup - I live right on the border of Illinois and Wisconsin and it pisses me off that they're the only states in the whole country that don't allow any concealed carry. I wouldn't care if they made me take a 100 hour training course, investigated my entire past, or interrogated a list of references to make sure I'm capable... but to deny concealed carry for every law-abiding citizen for no reason is complete bullshit.
ReplyDeleteGood - More stories like this could mean even unarmed people can walk around feeling safer while would-be muggers are petrified that they might try to hit the wrong guy.
