Palin Came Out Swinging

Palin came out swinging at Obama last night.

So did Romney, Huckabee and Rudy.

But it was Palin's attacks on Obama that were particularly stingy.

"I had the privilege of living most of my life in a small town. I was just your average hockey mom, and signed up for the PTA because I wanted to make my kids' public education better. When I ran for city council, I didn't need focus groups and voter profiles because I knew those voters, and knew their families, too. Before I became governor of the great state of Alaska, I was mayor of my hometown. And since our opponents in this presidential election seem to look down on that experience, let me explain to them what the job involves. I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a 'community organizer,' except that you have actual responsibilities."

Did I just get schooled on national televison?

Well, there are two schools of thought here - and that pretty well expresses the division of the country. You were either offended by the Republican 3 hour telethon last night and wanted to cockpunch Rudy Guliani, or you were cheering while you were cleaning your gun.

Either way, America needs some better schools.

Dude.

There is a serious disconnect, and a major problem, when a politician objects to someone "dictating" that we properly inflate our tires, but sees nothing wrong with regulating what happens in my wife's uterus.

Elephants can't stay out of my bedroom, & donkeys keep chewing on my wallet.

Neither side is making me too happy these days.

As an intellectual, am tired of the populist appeal BS. I don't want an everyday mom as my leader. I want a f**king genius to be my president (or VP). Joey Tribiani is not who Republicans should emulate.

Dear Mr. Cthulhu,

I agree that there is a disconnect, but I think it is in terms of understanding taxes and who is really chewing on your wallet. There seems to be a general consensus that Democrats want to raise taxes while Republicans will cut them. But, take a look at the two webpages listed below for comparisons of the Obama and McCain tax proposals.

Unless you make more than $603,402.99 per year, your taxes will go down under both plans. If you make less than $111,646 per year, you get a bigger break from Obama's plan than McCain's plan. Only the top 1% of earners will see tax increases under Obama's plan. Of course, in keeping with Republican tradition, McCain gives the biggest tax cuts to the highest earners.

Republicans talk a mean talk, but the truth is that all those guns and tanks for the wars we're fighting, and all those government subsidies for big business, and all those faith based initiatives, and all those abstinence only sex-ed programs, all have to be paid for somehow. That's why we pay taxes, right? And that's why we have such a huge deficit. You can't grow government and cut taxes at the same time. But, that's exactly what Bush has done.

McCain seems content to follow suit and be another corporate puppet. He's upped the ante, though, by throwing in an additional puppet: the Palin extreme Christian fundamentalist puppet.

Can we fast forward to November please?!!!

Sir Anonymous--

Agree with you about the necessary quid pro quo of taxation. Collectivism works, otherwise we would have anarchy, which is not that alluring to me. That is why I laughed at the "lurking evil" of taxes as Mrs. Palin made it out to be.
Given my new job role, can actually see there is some merit to the theory of "trickle down." With that or welfare, the money eventually gets spread around.

My overriding disagreement with the Republican party is that while, yes, I enjoy spending/saving the money I earn, am not willing to save money at the expense of personal freedom. See that neat quote by Mr. Franklin about how we should never have created Homeland Security or passed the Patriot Act.
The money the Republic party claims to save me is not commensurate recompense for enacting the whispers of their imaginary friends into law.

Mr. Cthulhu,

You are a libertarian.

To a limit, I think.

I understand why we pay taxes, and don't try to sue the government to stop the buses from running.

If that Paul guy weren't a minion of his holiness, might consider him as a write-in.

For Libertarian to work, think that we'd need to become more like the EU than the great US of A.

btw:

If you're going to throw an honorific my way, it would be "The Mighty," not 'Mr'

Maybe next go 'round, when I'm legally eligible.

Of Course, by then, might be battling the incumbent "hockey mom" or the Governator.

Oh wait, King.
Yeah, I could do that. When do I start?
