Zell: Cash for Wrigley Naming? OK with Me!

The chief executive officer of the Tribune Company says he won’t hesitate to sell the naming rights to Wrigley Field—even if baseball purists don’t like the idea.

During an interview on CNBC, Sam Zell says despite Wrigley Field being known worldwide, he didn’t get a discount because he wasn’t going to use the naming rights that the field represents.

Zell said he plans to sell the Cubs and Wrigley separately and in his own time frame. He also disclosed that Major League Baseball has approved “four or six” potential ownership groups and that any one of them would be fine.

The sale of the team has been delayed by Zell’s plan to sell the team and the stadium separately, and to have a state agency acquire and renovate Wrigley.

Guess it's time to petition Wrigley to buy those rights?
We can have an Orbit Left field, the Airwaves Right field, the Extra score board, the Hubba Bubba Dugga Outta, The Big League Chew café, the Double Mint ivy... You could make an Altoids mint selling naming rights to everything in the joint - or the Big Red bricks.

This Zell guy is a toolbox and needs to be kicked in the nuts. Or pushed off a cliff

How much money does this guy need to make off this deal? The term "greed" comes to mind. And this trend of selling the naming rights for stadiums is out of hand. They change every 2 or 3 years and you have no idea what the damn stadium is called. Doesn't the SF Giants park have a new name now? Why can't they just call it Giants Park and be done with it.
