Japanese star Fukudome coming to Chicago to play for Cubs
(link)

Sure he could be the new Sosa, sure his elbow could still be a wreck, sure he might not handle Wrigley in the cold - but I for one cannot wait to hear Pat and Ron stumble over this for the next 4 years.

Pat will do it intentionally, Ron, not so much.

Again, I see this power play by the office as another open checkbook to help sell the team - not a championship building move. Prove me wrong.

The team will be sold no matter what, this is about improving the team at it's weakest spot. The guys that are not on the team(Jacque"Strap"Jones and Cliff"Tin Man"Floyd) weren't getting the job done and the guy currently on the roster(Murton) isn't capable either. Fukudome was the best available right fielder on the market. The guy's on On-Base machine and was part of the Japanese team that kicked everyone's ass in the World Baseball Classic. AND he hits left handed. Will Pie turn the corner offensively...who knows? Will Kerry Wood carry over his good performance from late in the year over to 2008 and stay healthy enough to hold down the closer spot...we'll see. Hendry may not be done yet, so let's hang tight before making judgements on the 2008 squad. The scum-bag Cardinals aren't doing anything noteworthy and the Brewers traded away a good closer and signed Eric "MASH unit" Gagne for $10M. So the Cubs still have a leg up in the division. Offer up some suggestions to improve the team and not just poo-poo any move they make.

The Cubs, as a unit, don't play as a unit.

They play like the Lakers.

For 100 or so years as the Cubs have told their fans that over and over again, and like the low self esteem abused wife they are, they just keep on coming back for more.

Yeah, I heard they will be selling sushi at Wrigley and they will have bushido blade night to replace the former mini-bat night. This way you can disembowel yourself in disgrace when the Cubs lose.
